They even had enough bravery to go free the little alien friends too.

The whole Redesign is about 5 times longer than the original. Imagine if the SNES version was like this back then.

25 god damn minutes to escape is not going to make for an epic rush to get out. That's a leisurely walk in the park.
The real thing did it better. 5 minutes to get from the bowels of the planet to the surface and a sprint to your ship.

But it's practically impossible to fail even if you go out of your way to rescue your friends, and you're given a straight line up to the surface. Personally I would've liked it if the original game's escape sequence had been 5 minutes long instead of 3-with-2-left-on-the-clock. 10 minutes would've been nice too. 25 minutes is a tad much though.

The escape from the Space Station was on crack in Redesign. It was about the same, but with a greatly reduced timer. I only made it out with 2 seconds to spare. Granted, I fucked up a bit because of getting used to the increased gravity (which kills aerial bomb jumps) and lack of wallkicking (wallkicking is like the second power-up you get) but still.

At the risk of being nailed to a cross upside down and then burned at the stake...

The first time I escaped Halo was the greatest escape sequence of all time! Only because me and my niece were playing it together and we are the most horrible dynamic duo of all time LOL. We both failed at driving the warthog and somehow whenever it would flip and throw us out, we'd take turns driving. The first few times we failed because Cortana totally screwed us when she said "Wait, Stop!" so we would slow up. Eventually we figured out to keep on trucking LOL. I wish I had a video of us doing it the first time and then a video of the outtakes after that video is over.

(Disclaimer: No I'm not saying it was really the best one of all time, but it was one of my most ffavorite.)

I was thinking it was more of a combination of "Web Crawling" and "Trolling" (As in Internet Trolling or forum trolling), but the fishing definition is just as good. This was also under "Other Uses of the word Trawl"

It also occurs frequently in reference to research methods, where it means searching through written sources for relevant information.

As much as I loved the escape sequences in SM, Fusion & Zero Mission, it makes me think about just how disappointed I was in the Prime Series for that.

No epic escapes in any of them. You just waste the final boss & that's it (or in Prime 2 depending on you did, had an extra fight with Dark Samus) Though, Samus' considerably slower pace in those games may have killed the excitement somewhat, it just seems at least to me anyway, that Nintendo has yet to come up with a truly epic Samus escape.

I am sincerely disappointed that none of you have mentioned MGS3.

I mean holy fuck, the last FOURTH OF THE GAME, EVERYTHING after you plant the charges is one giant escape sequence.

MGS3 spoilers

After you plant the last charge, Vayne captures you and you fight him. The pre-fight cutscenes (discussing the Legacy) alone are like 30 minutes long, the fight is another 4-8 minutes, with a short interlude thanks to Ocelot. After that, there's the cutscene of the actual explosion and escape from the factory. THEN you ride around trying to escape from the facility. THEN Shagohod rises from the grave and starts trying to kill you. THEN you run out on the runway, and Shagohod continues trying to kill you. THEN you turn onto a second part of the runway, and Shagohod continues trying to kill you.

Then there's a short cutscene and you cross the bridge rigged with explosives. You destroy the bridge, and watch the shagohod fall. THEN the Shagohod once again claws its way back to life, and continues trying to kill you. After you FINALLY damage the Shagohod heavily enough... Volgin COMES BACK OUT AND CONTINUES TRYING TO KILL YOU. After you FINALLY kill him, you get back on the bike, and ride through like five fucking forests while Volgin's troops use a myriad of ways to try to kill you.

THEN you fall off the bike, and have the three areas of EVA-escorting. THEN just when you think you've finally made it out, you have to fight The Boss, which is surrounded by even LONGER cutscenes. THEN YOU FINALLY DEFEAT THE BOSS, AND YOU GET ON THE PLANE, AND YOU THINK YOU'RE SAFE, AND FUCKING OCELOT CRASHES INTO YOU AND HOPS ABOARD. AND THEN YOU HAVE TO FUCKING HAVE A DUEL WITH OCELOT. AND THEN AFTER HE JUMPS OUT, YOU BARELY MANAGE TO PULL UP HIGH ENOUGH TO MISS THE GROUND. AND THEN AFTER YOU DON'T DIE, SOME RUSSIAN MiGS COME AFTER YOU TO SHOOT YOU DOWN ANYWAY.

tl;dr: MGS3's ending is absolutely absurd.

oh ya that's true. it's funny during those parts I never really notice how crazy MGS3's escape was.
