And while the videos look interesting, I'm reluctant to try any anime based MMO's after the 2 Gundam ones. ESPECIALLY if they don't release an international version, god knows i'm not gonna work my ass off translating abunch of stuff to play a grindfest(which it prolly will be), for that I can just play Maple Story/FFXI/Aion/etc in English for less hassle.
That is true. Most of it is weighed upon the case whether or not this will be localized for US/English play.
Otherwise it's virtually unplayable to most people. But companies would have to be fools to miss out on translating this.
An even brighter company would localize it, port it to a console, and make money off of their own servers and subscribers (even though DBO is rumored to be F2P in South Korea) The only likely console would be PS3, but right now it would still take a good company to make an English version for PC, since that's easier to do.

But the difference is that you can choose to accept their challenge or not. There is no PKing in DBO.

Here's your first contradiction. You cannot justify saying that one game 'does something better' than another when neither of them have been released.

This is also a major minus when it comes to actually hosting a game on a server, when everyone who accesses this server will have different PC/Console/Connection configurations meaning everyone has different latency. Just ask anyone who plays First Person Shooters online on a regular basis.

For those that aren't fans, it's a meh. At least with Final Fantasy, although there are reoccuring themes/creatures/characters, at least the world that the game is based in (exceptions exist, such as FFX-2) changes. Even if the name of the world is the same (Ivalice, iirc), the world itself is fundamentally changed. Dragonball Online sounds just like a copypasta of what has already been established...
Why was this even brought up?

The only change I see so far from Child to Adult is the adults are taller. How is this progress and growth? One player character being shorter than another player character is hardly a 'profound' difference. It also means that you have have 'newbs' who have just reached their adult stage looking down at 'veterans' who have made another character. Play time is not an indication of skill or ability, I'm sure I've been playing longer than Armando at FFXI but damn he knows FFXI mechanics a lot better than I do.
Nobody knows what the 'elite' looking gear is, (What we have seen may be standard, much like the Lv.52-60 artifact sets) let alone what the 'newb' gear will be. Same applies to Dragonball Online... heck we don't even know if the gear in DBO even changes or if they just colour-swap.

Fiesta Fly For Fun Dream Of Mirror Online These can also be thrown into the box of your definition of 'unique and refreshing'. As for the second part... While FFXIV characters look similar to FFXI ones, the DBO ones are exactly the same as what we have been seeing since 1984. Including everything else Akira Toriyama has done, including the Dragon Quest series!

They don't in FFXI either.. there's a thread around here somewhere about how bad that is.

Ever heard of an idiom called 'Jumping to conclusions'? (If not, CLICK THE LINK). You are saying a system that doesn't exist yet is corrupt. "Oh hay gaiz, we shouldn't have a free trade agreement with the Xerkzano(click)pop, they gonna shaft uz!"

Where did you find this? The links I found while searching for DBO information had nothing on crafting. A little on upgrading items, but nothing on crafting itself. (But I did get a gold selling site, lol.) The wiki on one site (dbommo.com I think) was full of broken links, and they had crafting and upgrading in two different sections.

tl;dr : DBO is more of the same, whereas FFXIV is at least trying to be a little different.

I've never played a MMO with PvP (I've never even done PVP on FFXI now that I think about it.), so I've always wondered does that keep some idiot from repeatedly challenging you? lol

Death could actually be a interesting concept, but you'd have to have friends to collect the dragonballs and wish you back lol. While they're doing that, you could travel snake way and learn from King Kai.

Strictly speaking Ivalice is a case of the games taking place in very, very distant time periods, not that they created a new world with different names. But yeah, end result is practically the same.

Ah okay, thanks for the correction. I guess Ivalice is similar to Dragonball what-have-you in that sense, I'll consede that point.

Ya know, to this day I still wonder why in the hell there hasn't been some sort of online Pokemon MMO made. I think it could turn out fairly awesome if done right.

Great, so instead of getting ganked by that player 10 lvls above me, instead I get the pleasure of having them following me around begging for a duel and pestering the hell outta me.

Having said that, how can you possibly say one MMO is definitely and without a doubt better then another MMO when neither game has even entered Beta testing. For that matter, how can you so confidently claim that FFXIV's economy will be corrupt and it's crafting system will be painful? We don't even know the details of either system as of yet other then the basic concepts. And comparing them to current FFXI information, the economy will be balances and the crafting in XIV will be an entirely new way to play the game instead of just a side-distraction to the gameplay itself.

I'll admit, the DBO thing looks a lot better then I expected it to, and if it ever had a domestic NA free demo I'd be willing to try it out. But at this point in time we don't know if either game will actually be fun or not since we can't play either game.

With the way Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver set up, they pretty much are wired for online in every respect, the games themselves are persistent worlds where you can stop in and challenge people at Pokecenter. There's just no other player interaction in the overworld, so no fighting over pokemon.

                        Works for me.

If Nintendo really wanted to dabble with MMOs, Pokemon is arguable the perfect game to do it with, but I'd much rather they did Fire Emblem. They'd have to bring the Paladin class down a few pegs, though, because they are rape riding a horse.

Jenova, thank you for the info that this game exists.

Now let's pretend you didn't try to compare it to FF14. This is like comparing Gran Turismo to Ico.

DBO doesn't even look like an mmoRPG. It's more like an MMO action title with a character growth system. Great, it's a super-simplistic Ninja Gaiden Online.

If they made a Pokemon MMO or a Pokemon game that was made similar to Pokemon Stadium but it was actually a full fledged game, I'd have to come out of Pokemon retirement and buy it.
