Pokemon is also one of those games where there is just so much stuff in the game that, like with MMOs, you suddenly you don't feel so bad for using wikis and strategy guides. There's just so much do to do and so many factors that to get what you want out of the game you pretty much need those resources.

Its not because the processes are that arbitrary or random, there's just that much shit to do. You could go through the main quest and miss over half of it.

We're talking so much stuff it makes Fallout 3 and ESIV: Oblivion guides look like brochures. I'm not saying that as a slight, either, its just you'll miss out on less there than you would starting out from square one in Pokemon.

        Damn, I would've bought it.

The only thing that actually sucked was that I played this game back when I used to collect the cards, and the legendary cards in the video game didn't exist in the real game.

I tried playing the Yugioh Video Games thinking that they'd be similar, but then I found out that Yugioh was 2,000,000x harder than it looked on TV.

You mean there's more to it than yelling "You've activated my trap card" whenever you're about to lose?!

I really wouldn't know. I've heard the manga is much better than the anime, and maybe the TCG is good, but I just can't get past the artwork.

I played the TCG alot back in High School, before they had a ban list and such. While I won't lie and say the anime didn't influence me into considering the TCG, on it's own it was very fun and challenging. There were many types of competitive decks that didn't involve just direct assaults, the one involving Dream Clown comes to my mind.

In the end I ended up with just a Magician Deck with a few things like Vampire Lord and Mad Scientist(forget his name, the one who can Special Summon any fusion monster for 1000 Life Points)that just kind of came down to using strong 4 star monsters and eventually being able to Special Summon mass Dark Magicians. Farthest I ever got is Round 3 in the tournament with it, but I liked playing it <.<

That and I didn't have "Swords of Revealing Light" in my deck.

I was trying to upgrade a monster, and before I put down my card the AI put down some card that blew my current attack cards away. It happened more than once lol and this was only the first battle.

Good lord, I really didn't need to know about EVs and IVs. Learning about the existence of those turned my playthrough of Leaf Green into a huge chore.

Also unique TMs and the way Egg Moves work makes it a bitch to put together a good moveset without multiple playthroughs or some sort of hack. Is it really too much to ask for a flying sandshrew with earthquake, swordsdance and earthquake TM left over?

Looks like I need to get my badges done, Arceus doesn't respect you if you don't have em, I thought Mystery Gift made that an exception, but apparently I got that confused with a straight-up trade.

Overall he feels like a trump card pokemon and plays like one, his PP numbers are extremely limited, so he's clearly not used all the time. I think there are ways to boost PP, though. I think this is why he came with a Rowap berry, so he could still do damage it he was attacked while ignoring you. I'm planting that one, though, I want a lot of them to spread between all my Pokemon

And this is what Savsender is for.

Yeah there's workarounds, but from a game design perspective it's kinda silly. They could just have some arbitrary "after you beat everything" quest to unlock a store with all the TMs or something. It'd just make things less of a headache.

Also Leaf Green was on the GBA so I don't think Savsender would quite be the solution there. Unless you meant trading everything over to one of the DS titles, editing it there and then sending it back. That could work I guess, but it's still needlessly complicated when they could just have something unlockable after you complete all other aspects of the game.

Is there really no limit to how much better Super Effective is than VG Cats?

If you've never read it, just start here and keep going to the end:

                            SUPER EFFECTIVE

I never imagined a Pokemon comic could mine such comedy gold.

If you're just playing through the game you don't ever need to touch the concept of IVs or EVs. It's pretty much impossible not to ruin the Pokemon you'll use on your first playthrough - which is just fine because they were going to have a limited moveset and inferior stats compared to the ones you'll breed later. And NPC trainers suck pretty hard anyways.

Having limited TMs is annoying but not too big of an issue thanks to breeding. Odds are whichever TM you had in mind, there's some Pokemon out there that gets the move via level up and thus can produce babies that start with that move. The real design failure is not giving players a convenient way to check the IVs (genes) of your babies. The whole IV-checking process is a nightmarish timesink involving multiple Wifi sessions (Lv.100 battles) and either online calculators or Excel spreadsheets.

And that's ignoring a couple of other timesinks you have to go through before you can start mass-breeding easily.

Also I agree, Super Effective is much funnier than VG Cats can ever hope to be.
