  • Looking for a new MMO or P2P RPG to play

Well, I finally got around to messing with this laptop, its a hand-me-down of sorts. Well, more like my sister's ex-husband never came back to claim it. This is my in-betweener til I get a new PC and when I was grounded with a cold, I finally started tinkering with it.

I've done what I can to get it up-to-speed and I'd like an MMO or P2P RPG I can run on it. I don't know if I'll ever be resubbing to FFXI, I really just don't feel like staring over in a new LS after being off so long. This thing isn't exactly top-end either, so I need something that skews down to what I figure is five years old at most. Its a Dell Inspirion 2200.

I've gotten Everquest and SMT Imagine to work well enough, but the interface for EQ is too unbearable to deal with.

Tried to download EVE Online, but it never seems to complete. Sounds interesting, but might be too high-end for this. D&D Online looks too high.

Anything beyond that is clearly out, WoW maybe since it skews low, but since they murder thier own endgame in each iteration, maybe not lol

Try runes of Magic, or Gates of Andaron is you like WoW They are Semi-clones. Theres also FlyFF its a decent MMORPG but once you get to lvl 40, it becomes a HUGE grind fest.

I can't recommend Runes of Magic. The interface felt very clunky and the early content wasn't compelling enough to keep me around for even a full hour after I finally got it installed. It was a very sluggish experience.

Went and tried WoW anyway. If I can find an MMO where the setup is THAT easy and quick to get into, that might be what i'm looking for. A few tweaks in-game and it was running well and looking fairly respectable even for this laptop. Obnoxious Halloween Event is obnoxious, though.

Can't get Eve Online to even set up for some reason, always gets hung up in install. I tried to redo it under the account I had made, but no luck. Just stalls out or locks up my PC.

Too bad that EVE won't work. Are you trying to use teh DX10 version? There are two different versions. If you haven't already tried googling to solve your problem, definitely do, but I'm guessing you have.

Well its not the direct X version at issue, but the fact that Eve just gets hung up during install. I'm gonna try again, but I'm not expecting much to change. Though the last time I did try, it made the annoying antivirus program on this laptop error out and its not running. Maybe it will work now.

Are the specs for Eve as scalable as WoW?

I don't know about WoW, but EVE is about as old as FFXI is, and I'm pretty sure the system specs are around the same. Unless they changed it, you should be able to run it on any modern PC that can play any other 3D game you'd want to play.

I forgot to Mention Ryzom. Its a MMORPG made by the french. Your character can do anything from healer to Melee, to magic. You character learns like you would in a skill tree but, no matter what, you can NOT fuck up your character which is good about the game.

Its teamplay oriented, and the level system is a real nice one. You use a certain skill, and that skill levels up. Then you need to buy more skills with the skill points earned from the skill you used. Youhave to check out the website if your looking for a good game. It also has a GREAT PvP content. Its not Open PvP either. Its Faction based, and you can only PvP if you duel, or have your Faction PvP flag up. Also. The community is REAL nice.

I loved the game, but it takes too long to load everytime you start it up. Other than that, its a real great game. I suggest you check it out. Its also a real chea P2P game.

                  Yeah, EVE still isn't installing.

                  I'll look into Ryzom shortly

Meanwhile, gonna try the RP servers on WoW, not five seconds in my second login and was already challenged to a duel, then offered a guild with no prompting. Yeah that doesn't surprise me at all, PVP players with no social skills.

I like the nightelf druid better than the human priest anyway, I'll reroll human on something else

That happened to me as well. Then when I whooped his ass (We where both lvl 1 lol), Multiple times, he complaigned and complainged about it until I blisted him. Then I got an invite to the guild he was part of >.<

MapleStory is pretty fun. 2D sidescroller type mmo.Several servers to choose from and mutiple channels to go to if one is too busy. Max level is 200. Mutiple classes. Warrior/Mage/Thief/Bowman/Pirate. Each class except mage has 2 choices to branch on and mage has 3. When im lfp on ffxi i usually grind 2 or 3 levels on maple. Lots of quests to help with leveling. Download probably takes about an hour or so. I play on the Scania server with my girlfriend and roomate. Its a taaaaad for younger audiences but the gameplay is pretty straightforward. Also Free.

Give Chronicles of Spellborn a try. I'm playing it, its not bad. Looks generic on the outside but its really fun to play the battle system.

Well if the only thing you dident like about EQ was the interface, there are a TON of 3rd party interfaces you can get. Also SoE ALLOWS 3rd party interfaces, infact they encourage it. If I remember right eq dot interface dot com is the best place.

Also Dark Age of Camelot is still getting new content and expantions etc. I really enjoyed this P2P game between EQ and EQ2. It is a very solid game that runs well on older systems. Probally the "Best" choice for Older MMOs that still get support/are worth playing

I had no problems with EVE, but I had problems with installing Ryzom that I couldn't solve.

As you are the anti-me, I recommend you keep a (b)log of your adventures in Ryzom, you'll come to love the game and leave it later because you think it's technically brilliant, but just not interesting enough to keep you playing.

Isn't Ryzom closed again? They shut down like twice. Oh they're running again, and the window to play the game for free has closed. Right? Something like that?

I looked into playing the game a couple times. Seems neat. Not willing to spend more money.
