I can't say that surprises me any.

Thing about the Sony fanboy - as Destructoid recently pointed out - is that if what they believe is a "Sony franchise" doesn't appear on their PS3s, then the game should be boycotted and the company that decided to put it on anything but PS3 is a goddamn traitor.

So BBS and 358/2 Days don't count to them, neither does CoM, even though there was a PS2 version it still touched that dirty Game Boy Advance first.

Oh well, they can miss out.

I've accepted the trend that many console franchises are moving to handhelds because those ventures are easier to profit from in a time where making really expensive games can be risky.

First it was Dragon Quest IX, then all these other games followed, really.

    Valkyria Chronicles 2
    Persona 3
    SMT Strange Journey
Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden

I expect the trend to continue, so I'm glad I have a DS and PSP, quite frankly.

I burst from the shadows spreading news only to disappear again. I probably could do the same with the "Tales of" series, but that doesn't seem as popular here. Since I don't play XI anymore, I just skip down to the general section nowadays.

I wonder how many people got tricked into downloading Tales of Monkey Island just because they thought it was another Tales game.

They need to rerelease Birth by sleep for PS2 or Wii, after it sells enough on PsP, and same with the DS game. I am tired of handhelds and when I finally got rid of both of them.... this stuff comes out. Even so I am tired of all this back story crap, got sick of it with Metroid and getting sick of it with Kingdom Hearts -.-

That and more Parasite Eve please..... really please? *begs* I heard of a Parasite Eve. coming to PsP, but again -.- no handhelds anymore

I'm still opposed to Valkyria 2 being on PSP on aesthetic & comfort grounds (comfy couch + 48" HD LCD vs PSP-3000 & wherever I happen to be at the time). SEGA is admittedly doing a damn good job of handling the memory limitations by having each battle occur on multiple, smaller fronts that you need to shift between. However I still can't get past the look of the game. I'm sorry, but the original VC was just such a work of art and PSP doesn't do it any justice.

Is it a bad looking game? No, the visuals are still fairly impressive, but the artist in me is screaming out at SEGA for doing this. It's akin to defacing the Mona Lisa or the Sistine Chapel, at least in my view. Then there's the whole BS about the game having 35 classes vs the original 7. How the hell did they manage that anyway? I noticed from the new trailer they've brought melee weapons into the mix.

I'm not against developers branching out like this (See: Silent Hill shattered memories for PSP) but it just irks me in some cases, like VC2 & to a lesser extent Dissidia (my beef with Dissidia is purely with the lack of online play via PSN though this is more of SE's fault than the PSP's)

If you want to play games that are only being released on handhelds, you should probably buy said handhelds instead of praying for a port that will never happen. You might get lucky with the KH games but PE3 is doubtful, it was originally a cell phone game and PE isn't exactly well known or popular.

I can understand the frustration at Kingdom Hearts as they are pretty much milking it with all the prequel shit, but Metroid? Metroid is hardly about story, and you can't really complain about back story with Metroid anyway because every Metroid game released in the last 15 years other than Fusion happens chronologically before Super Metroid, and there really isn't any way to know that just from playing the games.

SE has nothing to do with the fact that Dissidia doesn't use infrastructure mode - that is Sony's fault and Sony's fault alone because they insisted on SE making it an Ad Hoc Party title. Meanwhile Sony keeps their thumbs up their asses and don't release Ad Hoc Party in the west for PS3.

Aside from DQIX and the other mentioned titles, there's Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker, Motorstorm, Okamiden and several more going handheld, its pretty clear this is a trend that is not going to stop. Hell, they just announced the follow-up for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in Japan.

And I can't really argue with the business logic behind these choices. Cheaper platforms to develop for with online stores attached to them. This leads to content that's easy to make a budget for, easy to release and make a profit. The DLC games are practically free money to be made, no middle man or publisher to worry about. Apparently they saw Nintendo rolling in money for and finally caught on to what they were doing all these years.

That and we live in the age of iPhone, which is rather popular for games as well. My sister just got a iTouch and while she's not an avid gamer, the first thing she did was download a game for it.

Well if they are going to keep doing handheld crap then they need to make players like NIntendo did in the good old days..

Give me a PSP player for my PS2 and a DS Player for my Wii

Story of their life. Seriously. It feels like ever since PS3 was announced, Sony has done nothing but fuck shit up. I really want the things Sony wants to do. So why don't they do them!? Anybody who's a Sony fanboy needs to read histories of everything-PSP or that of any peripheral (PS2 HDD, PSP keyboard, PS3 features that people care about...).

About the handheld trend: this sucks for people who don't have money to fork over (21" LCD is my "family TV", PS3 that's on indefinite loan from my sister -- I can't even afford to buy some dualshock 3s for the sumbish). $300 now for an xborks 360 or a PS3; another $200 for a PSP. Silly.

I guess it just seems to me that when you decide to make a handheld title, you're catering only to upper-middle class. Whereas families will actually invest in a central gaming station that all the kids can share once every 5 years or so. Alternatively, college kids will starve for 2 months to afford a PS3. It's hard to get them to starve additional months for a handheld.

I find the artist in you to be pretty questionable, and not just because of this statement. The whole comfort thing is kind of ridiculous too. You could apply the comfort argument to just about any series that shifts to a handheld.

I'd say it's simply more accurate to say that Sony caters to the upper-middle class. Nintendo hardware has always been the cheapest in the console/handheld wars, and the X-Box 360 isn't that unreasonably priced and doesn't have a handheld cousin.

Also there are people who would much sooner buy both handhelds than a PS3. I know many people will disagree, anything over $300 that's supposed to be for playing games (computers excluded) is ludicrous to me.

I guess; doesn't make much sense to me to start counting from Super Metroid though. The prequels started with Prime (which came out at the same time as Fusion, so if anything you could say they went Interquel-onry on Prime 2 onwards) and that was only 7 years ago. I can also forgive Prime since the Metroid II backstory mentions Samus disappearing for 2 years after Metroid 1. I can also forgive Zero Mission because Metroid 1 NES sucks balls and Super Metroid retconned the ending slightly anyways.

It's pretty much true that story is secondary for Metroid much like it is for something like Mega Man or Sonic, but it would be nice if they actually made a Metroid 5. Fusion had an interesting turn of events and they've just left that hanging.

They'd better not make it before an FFVI remake.
