SE announces 2-3 new big titles, doesn't tell anyone what they are

Wada says they're makin' stuff

Apparently, SE isn't happy with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest being their only two top franchises, Wada says he hopes for them to have up to eight in the next few years, but doesn't explain how or why he thinks it will happen.

He did say some new IPs were in the works and they're very confidant in them. I'd assume at least one of them to have the recently-acquired Eidos involved.

Of course people are already speculating one of them is an FFVII remake, which would not only not be an original, but falls squarely under Final Fantasy. The others were butthurt that no new Kingdom Hearts was announced for consoles, even though 358/2 Days just came out today and Birth By Sleep isn't that far off. Yes, SE is totally ignoring Kingdom Hearts fans.

I'm all for some originals, though, bring em on.

Well, to be fair, the emo kid ones were pretty much just FFVII, FFVIII and FFX. Though I kinda think FFVIII gets pulled into that unfairly, as there was a nice parallel story to be told and Squall behaved for reasons that were actually much more normal than he's given credit for.

I have been spoiled on the actual maturity within games like FFXII and the SMT franchise of late, though. I want to see more of it in RPGs in general. I realize that would be asking the impossible of some franchises, though. Just as much as it would be to ask the industry as a whole to get over zombies.

FFVII's Cloud was only occasionally emo, too. But he's like a goddamned singularity of emo and gothness and belts and zippers in KH, and close to that in AC (less gothness but still)

Well, TLR was a decent enough experiment. SE was really onto something with that game. They just really need to refine the story and tweak some of the battle aspects a bit. Otherwise TLR was a fine game and I'd like to see more of it.

Drakenguard was another series that had potential but they squandered it with the 2nd game...


I'm actually a little taken back that they don't consider KH a major series. It's done pretty well and has a rather sizeable cult following now. That said, hurray for new and interesting IP's.

In the mean time, BRING ON THE PS3 FF7 REMAKE!


Edit: I think people are a little too quick to slap on the label "Emo" these days. Ok, yes, Cloud Post FF7 was pretty damn Emo but not so much in the original game or even CC (in CC he was just a wuss lol). He merely had false memories & a very screwed up psyche, but otherwise came off as a strong character (though I still say he is nothing but a stand-in for Zack & if I had my way I'd rewrite CC's ending but oh well)

The other thing is people are so quick to just jump on anyone who as any sort of emotional issues and berate them for it; Like Cecil or Squall. Just because Cecil had very strong moral objections to what he was being ordered to do he is automtically emo? Or that Squall hides his feelings and puts on a tough front feigning self confidence to reassure himself? The guy grew up all alone in an orphanage and his only family member just up and vanished one day when he was still just a kid; If something like that doesn't screw you up in some way then you're a heartless machine.

It's not as though any of 3 characters I mentioned (again, pre-AC Cloud) just wander about moaning & groaning going "oh poor me! why does the world hate me?!" Vincent on the other hand is a bit of a toughy; he really borders a grey area and I'm not totally sure if he counts as Emo or not.

Well they wanted KH to be a pillar franchise, but I think its the limits Disney places on them that keeps it from getting too far. If Disney would actually step up and do some production work, movies and such, it would surely become much more popular.

Well that and it seems every handheld iteration of the franchise has the real gameplay and more interesting stories, the console versions just don't feel as inspired and only have story to hold them together. The gameplay of the PS2 versions blow ass and rely too much on fanservice to get by.

358/2 Days I've only just started and its a million times better just for not having lameass Gummi Ships and its not stuffing Disney characters down my throat yet.

I never really had any issues with the gameplay of the PS2 games, even if CoM really did blow both out of the water in gameplay. And I liked Gummi Ships.

Not shoving down Disney characters down my throat is always a good thing though.

They really did work as best they could to bring it close to the PS2 versions on the DS, I'll give 'em that. I really appreciate how much work SE is willing to put into the DS and PSP stuff they do. Too bad this DS version only had local multi-player for the co-op mode.

Oh well, guess I'll continue to wait for Phantasy Star Zero on that score.

I like how we automatically summon Gobo every time we bring up KH even though I rarely see him post otherwise, and he always tells me something I don't know.
