    I tried playing the game, it downloaded fine and everything, but everytime I tried to start it up... It would stall, then my PC would crash... -.-;

        Baldur's Gate used 2nd edition rules, I don't know which rulebook they're using for D&D online, but I imagine it's a more recent version. There were a few things that got overhauled between 2nd and 3rd edition, but if you understood BG you should be fine.

        Honestly though, I think the Infinity engine was as close to paper and pen D&D as we're ever gonna get, and I don't put much stock in subsequent attempts to implement the D&D rule-set on the PC.

          The Temple of Elemental Evil was pretty good. If its a turn based RPG, it could be good. It could be pulled off online on a text based with images, or forum based.

            D&D online always struck me as humorously oxymoronic. I mean, I'm all for the advancement of technology (I'm involved in a play-by-post, in fact), but the reason we play D&D instead of actual video games is because a human running the game can adapt to whimsical player decisions and invent new story threads on the spot. Unless there's a player:GM ratio of 50:1 (if not lower) and a 1:1 ratio of player:developers-working-constantly, it's just an online game given the most generic of fantasy settings (because we don't have enough fantasy MMOs).

            No wonder it became free.

              DDO:EU (based mainly on 3.5) is sadly more free-to-try than F2P. It severely restricts free players from the best content and weans you off new dungeons altogether by level 12 or so. After that, it's either microtransactions or subscription if you want to stick with it.

              The game itself, like FFXI, is largely party-based, but is more akin to a traditional MMO, or even GW, as it's all instanced regions and dungeons. Unfortunately, by taking it to a set online world, it takes away much of the free-spirited "you can do absolutely anything you want to" aspect and replaces them with strict laws of gameplay.

                I've played it now for a couple days.

                Its engaging but gets boring really fast. Why? Because of the other players that's why. I thought i'd find a more interesting bunch of people. But all they do is spam the same quests over and over for the exp and loot.

                Meh. People are horrible.

                Back to playing NWN with friends.

                  Can you imagine an online game where people just do all of the content with as little repetition as possible?! Amazing! But no, we have exp and goals.

                    Stop taunting me, I still have delusions that such a game exists!
