    Re: Failbox 360

I love all the people chiming in with "Well MY <insert console> is <fine/broken/sent to the inner circle of Gehenna>!".

Truth is, the 360 does have pretty unreliable hardware as a whole - the older the model, the more likely it's going to break. The real problem nowadays is figuring out just how reliable the newer 360s are since there's so much background noise from the early models (Xenon, Zephyr, and Jasper). Newer models are definitely cooler and "more" reliable than the older models - whether they're "as" reliable as the PS3 or the Wii is an open question.

Ya only one of them has the newer hardware too. I actually have 4 but the other one is new in the box and won't be opened so it doesn't count. The one in my bedroom and my son's bedroom get a lot of play time. Several of my family play 360 so there are nightly matches to play. It really cuts into my game time for other games dang it. The other console is in the living room hooked up to the big lcd for movie watching mainly. I have the HD DVD drive and movies for it. I also have Netflix subscription and stream movies. On really hot days my son or I will play in the living room because upstairs can get really hot since we don't have air conditioning in this old house. I have absolutely no gripes about my 360s.

By the way, this is in no way a shot at the 360's game library; superb games. But fuck off with the failtacular hardware. Mine just recently started acting up and I've only had it since Dec 26... (it doesn't always shut off when I turn off the power)

            Re: Failbox 360

Wow my PS3 has survived the following despite being SECOND HAND

            1) Being dropped by the courier who delivered it when I ordered it.

            2) Being dropped by my aunt

            3) 8 power surges without a surge protector

            4) One of my roommates spilling beer on it

            4) The same roommate getting a little too enthusiastic with the Rock Band mic and hitting the PS3 with it (the mic survived too)

            5) Falling out of the car when bringing it back home when college finished for the summer

The only issue I have with my PS3 is that is won't pick up FFVIII as a game disc but I have a PSX for that anyway...

My current 360 on the other hand was bricked by one of microsoft's own compulsory software updates. I've had the following problems with my 360:

            1) Frequent disc read errors.

            2) Grinding noises frequently coming from the DVD drive even if the 360 itself is laying flat. Game discs inevitably come out ruined and impossible to trade in.

            3) Frequent overheating. It regularly sounds like a jet plane taking of and gets progressively louder and louder until it crashes then I turn it on.

            4) Double charging when attempting to play MMOs on it

            5) The frequent loss of stored M$ points

            6) Frequent loss of saved data

            7) Very slow and unstable connections when using the wireless adaptor

            8) Wired 360 pads literally vibrating themselves to pieces

            9) Wireless pads that refuse to charge with the official plug and play chargers after about 2-3 months

            10) I'm on my third power brick because they overheat and/or fuse so frequently.

My favorite 360 glitch ever was when I was playing an offline game of multiplayer at a friend's house with another friend of ours and the 3 of us just went "what the fuck?!" when it said "You failed to load the map."

              .... epic god damn fail.

I've had that before when trying to play Halo at college. We ended up just playing Pain all night instead

Actually the infuriating thing about trying to play Halo offline has to be the constant messages saying that there is no network cable plugged in...Even though...

                1) My 360 was connected to some random person's unsecured network with the wireless adaptor

                2) Said adaptor wasn't plugged in...

I have no idea how long Wiimotes last since I don't own a Wii myself but PS3 pads can last for a VERY long time before needing a recharge. I've had one last for around 20 hours before because I forgot to turn it off so it was more or less sitting there on my shelf doing nothing.

yeah all 3 of my controllers (it came with 2 Six-Axis and I bought a DS3) all last at least a few days on a single charge. I'm lucky to get a few hours out of my 360 controllers.

Yeah that is one thing I can honestly say I hate about my 360. I went ahead and bought the wall charger which works much better. Usually I'll have my controller plugged into the play/charge and charge the other batteries for when other peeps come over so they can play wirelessly.

I bought a charge pack for the wii that never worked. I was so disgusted by it that I didn't take it back to the store (I had lost my receipt) I just threw the thing away.

                      Re: Failbox 360

I don't know about you guys, but, while playing the PS3, I sit there and WISH it had the firmware that the Xbox 360 has. You never really know how much you take for granted when you can get a list of all the files on your HD, a way to organize your music, or the ability to play music while playing a game. In one remote place you can check how much space you have left on your HD and in a few other places you can check what exactly is taking up that space; all the while the legwork in between is maddening. When I go to play music, it gives me a list of albums, but in no particular order, and when I select an album it gives me a list of songs on the album, again in no particular order. On the Xbox 360, I can check what's on my HD while easily managing the data, and I can pick one album or all the albums by a single artist, and I can listen to the tracks in order or randomly if I choose. I can also play some Korean thrash metal while I play my shooters.

                      Why wasn't that on Sony's to-do list?

Errr... I've had my PS3 controller die like 3 minutes after it just got a full charge.

I agree Dak. My 360 is much easier to use and more versatile than my PS3 is. Sony really dropped the ball. I think it was more of "oh we have Blu so we're good" type of attitude that lead to them not fine tuning the interface. I've also had to repair one of my PS3's but I've never had to repair any of my 360's. It' just goes to show that different people have different experiences. While I understand that others have had problems and I do sympathize with them, I can not relate to them whatsoever.

I think the XMB is just fine personally. It could stand to be improved upon yes, especially since the PS3 can transfer music straight from your PC to your HDD (360 has to rip it from a disc) but over all it's still a good system. The new firmware 3.0 is adding some nice new features and is due out soon.
