  • The War to Save the Fat Princess is Here!

Rather then necro a year old thread, I'm starting a new one to see who got it.

After playing it for a few days I absolutely love this crazy little game. Outside of some issues with getting online, the game is amazing. Battles rage, princesses are fed and cake is flying everwhere! Offline mode is fun, if not a bit too easy, but still a great way to get used to everything. But the real meat and potatoes...so to speak...is in the online play when you can get 31 other rl people running back and forth blastin foes, droppin bombs and ganking their dudes.

Hell even the menu options are funny as hell, especially the credits. Which alone would be worth the purchase.

So is anyone else enlisted in the battle to save the Princess? I can't be alone in this fight, my back won't be able to hold out for long!

I played quite a bit of this last week, haven't been on my PS3 in a couple days.

Online connectivity is definitely a problem, but the game itself is incredibly fun and uproariously funny (and yes, the Who's Your Daddy? credits roll is comedy gold and worth the price of admission all by itself).

Re: The War to Save the Fat Princess is Here!

I thought it was fun, at first, but that wore off pretty quickly. The maps seem to be either too simple or too complicated, and the resource/upgrade system is buggy and shallow. The upgrades don't exactly provide an upgrade either, it's a new weapon, spell, or an entirely new class, as is the case of the Priest. Workers exist almost solely to collect materials, which makes sense, but their offensive ability is marred by their low health. For dudes who mine metal with an axe, they've got to be a lot more buff than they're pegged to be. Even if the explosive power of their bombs isn't affected by being gunned out, they should, at least, survive a few more hits.

The archer is unbelievably overpowered, especially in the beginning of the game. It's only a matter of time until I get the 88 kills without a single death trophy, which will be easily achieved by kiting pretty much everybody and running away if it's too risky.

Played for a while at a friends, was pretty fun but not something I would drop money on any time soon.

The AI also bugged out while I was playing and my entire team got the enemy princess stuck on the corner of some stairs while trying to return her to the cage. This was after playing for over an hour and I had just gotten my princess back to our castle after trying for a very long time to capture her.

Workers aren't supposed to be strong fighters, they're supposed to be workers. They're the fastest running hat class and the only ones who can farm up raw materials and build valuable defenses and path ways. And while Rangers are strong, no class is overpowered as every class has it's value. A good fighter can easily wallop a ranger in a one on one fight. And out of the 5 classes, the only ones with a crappy upgrade are the rangers. Priests get the ability to do damage as well as heal, mages get the ability to support as well as damage, workers get a strong offensive weapon great for sieges and fighters get a strong new weapon and an attack that helps them chase down enemies. I don't know what kind of upgrades you're looking for, but the ones in this game seem to fit nicely. They add new functions to classes without making any one overpowered.

And yea, the AI can be screwy sometimes. Playing offline with bots is just way too easy. The real fun is against other people, especially if you have some friends watching your back.

Wait... if you take my Fat Princess and keep yours, don't I win by default? I mean, sure, I lose a member of the royal family, but there might be other heirs to the throne. Last thing I want from a queen-to-be is one that looks like she eats her subjects.

One thing I don't like w/ PSN is they don't require a demo. I'm interested in the game, but for $15 I want to try before I buy....

Re: The War to Save the Fat Princess is Here!

This was so much fun after playing with it in the weekend. The patch that went up on Friday fixed a lot of issues that we were having while connecting to the different servers.

I like the Rescue the princess type of gameplay vs. the others. I suppose the only other one that I played was a type of death match, where the # of points of the enemies team needs to be reduced to 0, and the way you reduce the points is to kill off the other teams.

                I think there's 3 or 4 types of games
Rescue the Princess (hold both princess for 30 secs to win)
Deathmatch (number count of enemies need to be reduced to 0 to win)
Tower control (cap all the outposts and hold to win)
Might be one more, but I forgot what it was called, I think you need to just cap the other team's princess 3 times to win. There was a rare bug that we got in one of the games where the princess fell off the map,and no one could rescue her or anything like that. Really odd.

Otherwise it's good clean bloody fun. I need to get a mic now so I can work better with my team.

Well, story wise, the idea is that the Prince who is looking for a bride can break the curse of the cake and return your Princess back to normal. So to ensure that your Princess is chosen and not that other Princess, you want to capture theirs while keeping yours safe.

And yea, that patch helped a *lot* with the connection. I had no problems gettin online this weekend.

The tower control mode is called Invasion, and you only need to control more outposts than your opponent to make them start losing points.

                    There's two more modes:

Snatch & Grab is similar to Rescue the Princess, except you don't need to hold the princess, you just need them both in your castle at the same time - it's a best-of-7 Capture the Flag mode.

Soccer is a special mode where you kick soccer balls into a goal on a soccer field - but with weapons allowed to kill people trying to move the ball(s) - yes there are often more than 1 soccer ball in play.
