They stated no X-2 they consider it a side game. I agree its very controversial subject but if its not included ppl will complain both ways saying they didn't do all the main games. Honestly I support XI for the marathon you are entitled to your opinion regardless.

They could still have stuff like level 1 -> Jeuno races and level 1 -> 10 solo leveling and stuff like that. I guess.

My own personal most fun "level 1 race" was reaching all three WotG cities with a level 1 character starting in Jeuno, and signing up for one of the forces. Yes, I have actually done that. With no oils, no powders, and almost no aggro. I even picked up the Xhifhut along the way. It would still take many hours just because of all the walking, though. And it helped a bit that I didn't do all this on a brand new character, because I had 7 Campaign Ops (Streetsweeper I) to get plenty of Allied Notes for teleportation.

FFXI would work if you have 6 people playing jobs to make a decent party. (This is assuming you are starting from scratch trying to achieve a certain level or trying to get access to a certain area)

Having a few people playing jobs that are able to solo might be nice to watch. They would be leveling in areas most people have never seen or only ran through. (I realized that Ifrit's Cauldron is not as bad as most people think by actually leveling Beastmaster in there.)

Re: The Speed gamers Final Fantasy Marathon

If you want to have a 'speed run' of FFXI, within a reasonable time period, might I recommend:

A full, six character, party. One of each of the starter classes (WHM, WAR, THF, BLM, MNK, RDM).

No interaction with other characters, unless necessary. No taking funds, equipment, items, power leveling, raises, etc. from other characters.

The goal is finishing the 2-3 BC.

Would be doable by a competent group of players in an amount of time that should be comparable to the other FF games. Especially if you skip getting subjobs (you shouldn't really need them), getting a bunch of nice items, equipment, etc. The 2-3 fight is done naked all the time. All I think would be vital to the fight succeeding would be the BLM knowing Sleep, and even that you can probably get lucky on.

Hm. I think it might be more practical to have the speed run up to the Shadow Lord fight, and use the game's Time Played feature.

I don't really consider 2-3 much of a milestone...I like 5-2 more. It has two advantages - it's the de facto Final Boss for the Middle Land's collective storyline, and at the same time the fact that it's an uncapped fight means the players have to gauge how early it would be possible to beat him on their own. But then again this is for a live event so that'd probably take too long. Oh well.

Re: The Speed gamers Final Fantasy Marathon

                          I think I was around lv18 when I did 2-3.

2-3 is a good stopping point, because it's the 'end of the beginning'. I agree that the Shadow Lord is the final boss of FFXI, but it's not nearly as feasible to get characters over lv50 as it is to get them over 20; and Shadow Lord at the original level cap is a hard damn fight from everything I've ever heard about people not fighting it with 75s on their side.

2-3 is where the story really gets off the ground, it's the first 'uniter' in FFXI (I was going to suggest having two characters start from each country; MNK and BLM in Bastok, WHM and WAR in San d'Oria, THF and RDM in Windurst, or something like that-- but then I realized they would've had to do 2-3 twice, since you can't dragon fight your home country)

Not to mention, you're already pushing it in terms of watchability. Even to just over 20, without farming for equipment, spells, needed items, etc. would be a good amount of hours spent leveling. The amount of time spent doing missions would be the highlight, and even that would be fairly boring to watch. Going to 50, and doing the Rank 3, 4, and 5 missions would be positively insane.

Re: The Speed gamers Final Fantasy Marathon

                            Here's a thought.

Instead of leveling from 1-50, find a level 50 player and five others of any level 50+ that have not completed a particular mission storyarch. Use level sync and have your party do that arch synced to certain levels to preserve the challenge, so make sure various members have a level 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 job to cap with.

Keep the group synced to 50 so the Shadow Lord fight can be something truly more epic than it would be uncapped.

This would make things much easier in terms of presenting FFXI's story in a marathon format, even if its not going by the usual rules applied to other games.

Also, do the Windurst arch, much more entertaining than the other two..
