    Re: Another SE title teased

Makes sense given the warriors of light bit.

But dear god, remind me never to read comments on a general video game site again.

Graphics don't amaze, but if they're going off the Light Warriors them, then your four starter characters would look rather generic. Its how it was with FF and FFIII originally anyway. Plus it seems so far that being retro is somewhat the point to this game.

It's not quite retro. They missed NES, SNES, or GB retro by miles. If it is retro it would have to be referencing PS1/N64 graphics, but there where no, or hardly any, games that looked like this before DS. Most PS1 RPGs where 2d sprites on a 3d background or 3d models on a 2d background, the ones that did full 3d didn't have quite this level of bobble-headedness (as far as I remember.) In any event, it doesn't gel with the Gameboy sounding music on the site.

I hope the approach they are taking is more like Etrian and Megaman 9 than the Dark Spire or Black Sigil.

Or they could be going retro in the sense of doing a homage to older design sensibilities while remaining in 3D. Because, you know, its not like they ever did that with with the super-deformed characters of FFIX or the remake of FFIV for DS.

Eh, doesn't evoke the old games much for me. At all, really. Neither did IX. IV's interpretation of Amano's design was already pretty close to the original, IV DS was a half-step closer still.

eh, getting tired of the game engine they are useing, it looks... "odd"

it was ok for FFIII and I tolerated it for FFIV, since it was my favorite... but come one -.- update the damn engine.

That is an updated engine! the backgrounds look painted, or at least like somebody applied a photoshop filter to them. I'm not sure what you expect an updated engine to do on the same hardware, heh.

It does have a watercolor look to it, so that could prove to be interesting. So far it also sounds like its somewhat of a reversion of the original Final Fantasy. Garland kidnaps the princess of Corneria. Sounds familiar.

Whhhhheeee. We're gonna be light warriors!

if thats all they did, then thats a poor excuse of an update. The characters still look like they came out of FFVII (graphic wise) and we all know the DS can do better then that.

Yeah, the characters are low fidelity. I mainly look at backgrounds and SFX though, so I think it looks better than most 3d DS RPGs.
