  • Games that desperately need reprints.

Not remakes, not upgrades, not updates, just games that need more copies out there because they've become too hard to find.

I post this partially because I'm frustrated at the lack of availability of some titles, and because I'm interested in knowing what games other people are desperate to get their hands on. Try to keep it to games that are actually on current gen platforms (platforms that are still supported by their manufacturer; the DS, PSP, PS2, Wii, 360, and PS3), or at least fit into the existing emulated platforms on those consoles (the Virtual Console systems, PSOne Classics, and the Xbox games thing). Not games for dead systems (Virtual Boy, Game Boy, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc.). Nor just games that you want to see on a download service, even though they're very common already (Final Fantasy games, for example)

    Ones I know of,
Tetris DS (I understand this is probably for legal reasons, but still)
ICO (seriously Sony. the fuck. The PS2 is a major pillar of your strategy, and SOTC and TLG show you clearly know people want this. The only reasons I can fathom for not reprinting this is either intending to release it on PSN in some form, or intending to release an upgraded version on or with TLG)
Endless Ocean (Although come to think of it, this might more be rare because of stores clearing it off their shelf space, since it seems available online.)

    PSOne Classics: XenoGears

mmm that's pretty much it for me, since the released Valkyrie Profile for PSP *shrugs*

I would have said FF7 had SE not released it on PSN (tyvm SE)

But yar, more games still need to be put on PSN (Xenogears, Legend of the Dragoon, Mega Man Legends 1 & 2 and Silent Hill 1-3)

EDIT: Forgot about Star Ocean 3 and Lunar (though Lunar is being remade on PSP). I actually own most of the games I mentioned but damned if they aren't hard to find now.

Re: Games that desperately need reprints.

I've pretty much crossed off all PSX games since we're starting to see them poke out here and there on PSN.

I agree with Tetris DS, I really don't see why the "Tetris Holding Company" passes it around to anyone else, Nintendo has always done the best Tetris games and people will flock to Nintendo systems just to play Nintendo's latest spin on it.

Also agree with Ico, though I'd rather see it as a download since PS2s are so finicky about those blue discs.

I'd like to see Nintendo reissue the GBA games as DSi Ware. We'll have to see what Nintendo has planned for DSi in the months to come of that score. I'd like to see the GBA pokemons as DSiWare for sure (I'm sure they can fool the system into thinking the applications were GBA games anyway). They're out of those crappy Animal Crossing/Mario clocks and calculators. Mario Vs. DK's latest expansion was great, Mighty Flip Champs and PiCTOBiTs were also excellent.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. It took me like 6 months of visiting game stores to find this game, and just about every time I looked, the store had multiple copies of Digital Devil Saga 2. No game should be harder to find than its own sequel, unless it's something like sports games where you really don't want the older one anymore.

That reminds me, the .hack games need a box set, or otherwise a release of all eight disks (Four game + Four anime dvds) in one; whether put on Blu-Ray, or in a special case that can hold eight disks, or with the anime dvds combined into one or two disks, and the games similarly combined, or however else they want to organize it. I think Japan got one, but it was just the four games in one unit.

The games, especially later ones, are on the hard-to-find-side alone, and then trying to find all four to see the entire plot... and getting them in good condition, and getting them at a reasonable price...

Way of the samurai 1 and 2 for the ps2. It was suck a great samurai action game. The bastardization of it for samurai western did not stop way of the samurai 3 from coming out in JPN. So I am sure that if it was rerelease it would gather a good fan base.

Note: GameCube games are supported by the Wii, so it's technically not a "dead system". Though that hasn't stopped Nintendo from making their New Play Control series of games...

Found my copy at a gamestop, with no box or instructions of course, but since I had a double DVD case left over from that POS DMC2 I just beer coastered that game and used it to tuck DDS and DDS2 in together.

Atlus games are also notorious for becoming rare and actively hunted by eBay vultures for price gouging. Shop around a little online and you might find a reasonable deal, but expect to sift through a bunch of low-quality sellers with unreasonable expectations before you do. With the exception of the Persona series, everything else Atlus seems to print goes this way. That's why Devil Survivor is a purchase I'm making this week and not later on.

Just as a side note, there's a lot to do in DDS before you jump into DDS2 and you can gain some interesting rewards in DDS2 for persuing DDS1's sidequests.

I'd like to see Army Men multiplayer onry with XBL compatibility. We had some epic times on that game when I was visiting my brother this one time. "DONT GET THE FLAMETHROWER! THATS CHEATING!!!! XD!"

"Dead" in the capacity of "No longer supported by the manufacturer in any substantial way, such as advertising, new game releases, etc.". Sony still very much supports the PS2. Furthermore, new PS2 games are still pretty common, (SMT:DDS and SMT4 being the last major ones) and not just the occasional homebrew or other odd, unknown game being released on it (retro consoles still get new releases from time to time). As in, you could still release an exclusive game on those platforms. The PS2, clearly yes, the Xbox and Gamecube clearly no. Also, shelf space; I see plenty of places with PS2 shelves still, nothing for gamecube (non-used)

If anything, New Play Control proves that the Gamecube is dead, because those games are being remade for the newer platform to reach a larger audience, instead of just rereleasing the gamecube game.

Re: Games that desperately need reprints.

Because "Running" is the same thing as "Supported".

Let me make this very clear:

Nintendo no longer gives two shits about the gamecube. They do not market it, and as far as I can tell they have stopped manufacturing it. The Wii can run gamecube games, but I've not even seen that mentioned as a marketing benefit for the Wii. Sony, on the other hand, actively promotes the PS2 as part of their market strategy, largely because of the failure (in terms of meeting expectations) of the PS3. The PS3 isn't backwards compatible, but that is completely irrelevant because they promote the PS2 as a separate console.

The PS2 is regularly listed as a current console, and given retail space. See Amazon.com, which lists "PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii" as consoles, with others listed under 'more consoles'. GameStop lists Wii, DS, 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, & PC/download on their main navigation bar. On BestBuy.com, go to Games/Toys, and it will show 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC/download. Walmart.com lists DS/DSi, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, 360. I could go on. Metacritic's "best of 2008" (and 2007) lists Wii, 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, DS, and PC games. The list goes on.

The fact is that the PS2 is still a very much alive and very much present console, which still regularly gets releases. The Gamecube is not. The 360 has the infrastructure and ability to download Xbox games, as the PS3 has for PSOne games. The Wii has no such capability to download Gamecube titles. The gamecube is dead at retail, the gamecube is dead in terms of downloads, the gamecube has been dead and will remain that way at least until Nintendo decides to replace the Wii, which is probably at least two or three years off.

Re: Games that desperately need reprints.

The other thing is, even though current model PS3's can't support PS1 and PS2 hardware, they can and do still run the software.

                              That's why you see PS1 games on the PSN, because they've been formatted to run on both PS3 and PSP. Kazuo Hirai said just prior to E3 that he is planning on massively expanding the PSN Store's library of games, so I'd expect to see more classics (maybe even some PS2 games finally) on the PSN. This is great on 2 levels;

                              1) No need to reprint old games since digital distribution is cheaper and easier (not mention CD's & DVD's shelf life isn't all that long)

                              2) They don't have remodel the system again to add the hardware which would drive the cost back up (the reason for the previous $100 price drop was precisely because they dropped it)

Now granted, this really sucks for people like me who own an original 60 GB (or the 20) model since if it ever breaks, I'm SOL and there goes all my game saves and suddenly my huge PS1/PS2 library is useless to me . _ .

Hopefully they can release a new model later with the hardware put back in (as they said they might do) or come up with a program where you can register the serial number on your case (1-time only for fraud prevention) that will allow you to DL the game free off the PSN. I'm sure as shit not paying for my entire collection a 2nd time.
