    Hells YES!

Your dreams come true: ESRB rates FFVII for PS3/PSP

To be honest, we never expected it to happen. We're so used to Japan getting awesome PS1 titles that never come to the US or Europe, we just assumed Final Fantasy VII would be one of them. The ESRB says otherwise, however, as it has rated the game for both the PSP and PS3, meaning that we could see it release at any time. Wouldn't that make make a great E3 week treat?

Whether this will be released in Europe is at the whim of Square Enix, though there is no listing for the game on the European ESRB equivilent, PEGI. Like Resident Evil: Director's Cut, this may be exclusive to America.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

    Funny that they mention the RE release because Europe got the better game (Silent Hill) ; ;

Great, now the masses can stop clamoring for this. I mean I liked FF7 and that's cool and all, but yeesh.

But you know, this is going to be like going back and watching the cartoons you used to love as a kid only to find out they're really crap in retrospect. Remember when people could have cubes for hands and the graphics were mindblowing?

FF7 is still a great game, you just have to remember when it was made. I watched a speedrun most of yesterday (stopped near the end, since I'm planning on replaying it myself now that I found out the reason I got stuck is because I was a tard and not because the game was being stupid), the graphics are still pretty damn good; even the 3D models don't look that bad in perspective. The soundtrack is top-notch, the gameplay is about as good as a turn-based RPG can hope for, the characters/story/world are all extremely good and memorable.

Personally, the release on the PSN means nothing to me, as I already have it on disks, and it's not like this has any enhancements other than being on my PSP, which is really a downside. I am hopeful, however, that this means FF9 is on the way.

That would be nice. I never finished FF9 due to losing my save TWICE due to crappy 3rd party memory cards. I liked the mechanics of that game, but I hated the stealing since I'm obsessive about stealing every item you can get before you can buy it and the success rates was dismal.

Nintendo did touch up some of their N64 games a bit when they were re-released on the Virtual Console. Sony might have had S-E do the same thing.

IF SE releases it with remade cutscenes instead of the old ones then I think the game will do pretty well.

Either way I'm 90% sure I wont be able to purchase it in my region anyway. But I will get VIII probably tomorrow, so it's not like I'll be upset about it.

Re: FF7 For PS3 and PSP!

Judging it in the context of when it was released is a time long since passed, when you're faced with a rerelease the better question i"Has it aged well?" Also have to remember that they've tried to move this franchise forward since then, so we can no longer keep FFVII in a bubble, impervious to what followed.

In that regard, I think FFVIII and FFIX have fared better, particularly because they had a better engine than FFVII did. FFIVs remake made it better than ever, but the core mechanics were still on par with the original version.

FFVII just feels slower to me than the other FF titles on PSX. The gameplay is still good, but it could stand to be sped up a bit and the character models a little less blocky. As a game it still holds up pretty well, as a story its tremendously overrated and set a precedent for creating a kind of protagonist that now never ceases to be annoying.

Re: FF7 For PS3 and PSP!

FF7 is the only one I don't own and since every asshole on Ebay wants over $100 for this I am very happy. The fact that I can upload it from my PS3 Hard Drive to my PSP is just icing on the fucking cake. Still hoping for SE to make good on that E3 demo though...

They gotta be working on it >.> there's no way they'd just tease everyone like that and not having anything planned. Yoichi Wada will deny it until he's blue in the face but we all know he's lying through his teeth. Just look at how ridiculously popular AC has been, not to mention Crisis Core (probably the best PSP game ever so far and a personal favorite ^^)

I'm hoping to see some more titles thrown onto the PSN though. Some of which I already own, such as Legend of the Dragoon but also perhaps FF 8 9 and 10. Sony has got to fix the damned backwards compatability issues first though, and I think they will since release FF7 on PSN wouldn't make much sense when all the current PS3 models can't play it.

Or do they seriously expect everyone to play it on their PSP, awesome as that is. I'm still on the fence about Lunar SSH. I'm just not sure if I'll be able to accept new voice actors when I own and love the original (well, original remake anyway LOL).

Is this not just a re-release of the original PS1 title? Why all the excitement?

its because its been out of print for about four years now. People who had copies (even without box and instructions, or hell, the Greatest Hits label) have been trying to pass off a $20 game for $70 to $100 since then.

Doubt there'll be anything done to this. SCEA is publishing it on the store, not Square Enix.

Re: FF7 For PS3 and PSP!

Sweet, now I can not finish it on another platform. Seriously, I think I've played it three times all the way through without ever finishing it. Spent so much time unlocking all the extras that I'd spend hours upon hours leveling Mime and Final Attack materias so I could chain cast KotR and smoke Emerald Weapon. Eventually I'd bet burnt out and never finish it. Or I'd get close and memory card would fuck up and I'd lose it all.
And seriously? I think I still have two copies of it for PS1. I could have sold that crap.

Totally off topic question: Super Metroid isn't out on Wii is it? Was over halfway through with that one when a roomate bumped it while I was playing and it deleted everything.

Super Metroid is on VC. First time I played it, thanks to that.

And yeah, I do somewhat regret not selling my disks with all the hype. Should have thought about that, but oh well.

I keep hoping I can track down a PC version of FFVII, it was the only title I recall, other than FFXI obviously, to ever be released as a PC game. Had zero luck in tracking down a legit download to date though.
