True has a cult following but it is the uncontested king of mecha games. That with in itself is preety sad considering how many mecha fans there are and the lack of competetion Armored core has ever had to mech games. But one day Armored Core may be main stream, I am just glad it was at least given a decent review for 4 and For Answers. Even though they give craptastical reasons its not a great game like well the ground isn't really that preety which is a reason they docked 2 points dropping it to 8/10 review but what ever.
After well over a decade, if Armored Core hasn't become mainstream already, I doubt it ever will be. It always sees horrible reviews for such petty reasons but one of the biggest turn offs to many people is the steep learning curve of the controls. While the newest installment pretty much fixes this by letting you map pretty much any action to any button, for a long time the unique control scheme would throw people off. Add that with the massive amounts of sheer technical data that's thrown at you with the fairly lack-luster online support and the "mainstream" will sadly just pass it over for simplier games.
It's big in japan though

The FF series by far. I have played and replayed every single FF game....and some 5 or 6 times. I clocked 140 hours in FFX my first run. So ya, I'd say by far the FF series is my crack.
Going on genre, its rpg/adventure games for me. It goes all the way back to MUD's where it started.

I don't really count FF games for the same reason I don't count Star Wars games-- sure, they're all technically in the same series, but they're not that closely related. Really, if you slapped different titles on each of the FF games, they'd just be considered a bunch of above-average RPGs, there's really nothing in gameplay terms that binds them together. Only thing are a couple of in game elements, like moogles and chocobos, but from a technical standpoint they're not very related at all. At least, since 6.
Re: What game or series have you put the most hours into?
I did manage to neglect the Gran Turismo games in my original post. I have no idea how many hours I put in but it was a fair few.
I have all the GT games released (for all regions!) for all the Playstations, assuming there were only 3 GT5 prologue releases, GT4 was the worst as there were 6 releases (4 different Asian versions!).
I probably spent the most time on GT2. I must have been messing about with it for well over a year (on and off).
With the PS1 and PS2 games you could easily modify the cars in ways that the game didn't intend. Swapping engines, changing drivetrains etc. I did a fair amount of delving into the PS1 memory (with plug in devices available at the time) and found how the game made cars go a lot faster without any tune-up parts as there was one place in the car info in memory that contained a multiplier to increase a cars horsepower. Unfortunately GT4 proved pretty much unhackable.

FFVI, FFVII, Earthbound, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I played them many, many times as a kid on their original systems, then the NES games in emulation on PC in the last few years. Though most timesink games have gone by the wayside for me since I started playing FFXI over a year ago.
