    Re: Resident Evil 5

I got RE5 on Saturday but didn't really get the chance to play it until last night. First impressions, very good. I'll tell you more once I've picked my jaw up off the floor.

Haven't played it yet, but due to a moronic mistake at the department store i got it atz, have a copy of it now.. 3 days before it launches. I'm almost a little hesitant to play it yet because my PS3 is connected to the internet via wifi and who the fuck knows what info my PS3 sends to who. Anyone think it's a bad idea to play a game (with some kind of online connectivity) that I'm not supposed to have yet?
I received my copy of MGS4 3 days early and all I got were messages off people going "OMG How did you get MGS4?!?!" messages and a single death threat for getting it early

      Re: Resident Evil 5

I've only played the demo with a friend and I had tons of fun... we then proceeded to make out in his room.

In any case, I may be getting a PS3 soon.

Then again I could use the excuse to go to his place more often.

I love this game. It's a lot like RE4, in that I can't seem to get enough of it, even when I'm just running through the game with infinite ammo.

          Re: Resident Evil 5

Co-Op is probably the only reason why i care about this game. The way they did it was really good as well with the inventory and the sharing of items. Many people complain about this game for various reasons, but i have not really found a thing against it honestly. Its a solid game.

            1) Way too damn easy (except on Pro mode which is just asinine)

            2) A.I. Partner is absolutely retarded, bordering on brain dead

            3) Final Boss was a complete let down

            4) Didn't care for how they decided to end the RE series but whatever. Maybe the new arc and characters will be better.

            5) Not that big of an "upgrade" from RE4 (I actually still prefer RE4 to 5 for a number of reasons, but neither is truly a survival horror game anyway)

Oh yeah, and it's $5.00 to play online competitive wtf. It's not the price, it's the notion that they're actually charging for something that honestly should have been included in the game to begin with. As a game it's by no means bad, but as a "Resident Evil" game it failed hard (to me)

You know, it's not a personal peeve of mine, but I hear plenty of people absolutely hate those who chastise a game for being too easy, and then turn around and complain that the hard mode is too hard. I can see where they're coming from.

You know, what freaking doesn't? I'm not a fan of the series, personally (fiddled around with RE4 once, it was okay, but shooting games just aren't my thing), but seriously, it's always just spew, bile, and vitriol with you. There's just no pleasing some ungrateful people in this world, I swear . . . !

                Re: Resident Evil 5

RE5 is pretty much RE4 -1. Unfortunately, that doesn't add up to RE3. It is worse in every conceivable way except for The Mercenaries mode.

But hey guys, the graphics are sooooo awesome! That makes it way better than RE4! Right?!

It really just sucked because they put Redfield in it >.>

I only count the ones that feature Leon and Ada.

That brings us to RE2, RE4 and the upcoming Darkside Chronicles.

                    Re: Resident Evil 5

The way I see it the Remake was the definitive RE.

With RE3 being the one I like the most by far, even though the remake is better in every way. With Zero, 2 and CV being classics, while RE4 is more in the category of Survivor and other spin-offs but still a great game.

Then there was Dead Space, which I consider RE-X (even have a pic of something that looks like the Umbrella logo inside the Ishimura. ) But in RE5's case it's crappy -1 controls (and comments about it's uninteresting story) just turned me away until I can get the game for 10 bucks just to play The Mercs, which is like 40% of the reason I enjoy RE games so much ever since I started playing RE3.

In other words, at least for me: RE Survival Horror > RE Survival Action.

Someone hasn't played the game obviously. Pro mode you die in 1-2 hits. That's not "hard mode", that's MGS's European Extreme level BS. The game has a "hard mode" (Expert) and even that's a joke since you can play the game on Easy Mode and at any time, repeat old levels to farm money, weapons and ammo. Then just go through it again on normal and expert (I did the whole thing on normal mode 1st time through, didn't know you could go back to old levels until chapter 5 >. <) and even on expert the bosses are weak.

Honestly, the game's just not that hard except on pro mode, and even then the difficulty is artificial since the enemies aren't any tougher or smarter, you just magically go into dieing status with ease. It's right in line with DMC's Heaven or Hell Mode (yet more Capcom bullcrap)

Likewise, RE3 was great, easily the scariest of them all. I mean, all survival horror games become tame once you've beaten them (except Silent Hill 2... that game still creeps me out ^ - ^ except on New Game Plus) but RE3 just had that pervasive feeling of complete paranoia. You had absolutely no idea when or where Nemesis would show up next or what would happen when he did (remember it sometimes gave a choice of 2 options to "deal" with him, some better than others) and after a while (particularly the RPG where he starts busting through doors with a RL) I began to wonder if he'd charge into a save room and kill me!

^^ I really wish they'd remake 2 and 3 like they did RE1, since the series has pretty much gone all to hell. As much as I loved Dead Space, I don't give it any slack either for using the stupid enemies drop money & ammo and shops systems...

It seriously takes a lot of the fear out of the experience. Why should I give a crap about what might be around the next corner when I know I'm never going to run out of supplies? I miss the puzzle solving from the old RE and Silent Hill games as well as the need to conserve ammo and pick your battles. And no, making enemies tougher/ammo less scarce is not acceptable.

I have not played the remakes, do they have a better control scheme? I honestly like the controls in RE5 and 4, they make a hell of a lot more sense than the way they did it in the old games which to my knowledge is turning to face where you go and pressing forward. I havent played 3, but reading up about it before though i can see where it can be much more scary.

I think a good way to like the game better is just see it as a different game due to the Co-Op, even though it does bear the title. I did, and i love it alot. I personally feel that if you want scary, go with Silent Hill remake with 0 weapons...that game was always screwy with your head. I am loving this because i can play with a friend, and hear his silly antics.

Umm... you still play that way in RE 4 and 5, they just eased it up a little (You still can't strafe properly or move free in any direction though...)

                            Re: Resident Evil 5

Games change over time. The story they want to tell now just doesn't include the elements they used in the first three. And, what's scary for some people isn't scary for others. Nemesis didn't scare me at all, he was pretty much what I expected from a character named Nemesis.

Capcom is entering into new territory now, with their intent to include cooperative play in their games. It could add a new twist to the traditional puzzles and problems they pose to the player.

I use the word traditional because the games do seem to be becoming blander. A scary,third-person, puzzle-based co-op shooter would top my list any day if they did it right. I can imagine sitting with my friend in the dark, both of us pretending we're not on the edge of losing it. It would be great.

He's actually justified on this one. Hard mode should consist of actual additional challenge, not just amped up numbers. I mean, just amping up numbers technically is increased difficulty, but if all the enemy behavior and attack patterns are the same then it's just doing the same thing as easy mode but taking longer to do it.

It's not really "harder" to have to shoot the zombie 6 more times than normal to kill it.
