  • Square Enix Games via Steam

Square Enix has partnered up with Steam to make its games available for online download, starting with The Last Remnant.

"We are excited to offer the millions of Steam customers online access to Square Enix titles beginning with our major action RPG, THE LAST REMNANT," said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Inc. and Square Enix Ltd. "Square Enix is committed to delivering the best quality titles to PC gamers and distribution on Steam is one of the many steps we are taking to increase accessibility for fans globally."

SE is a pretty darn good addition to the Steam library. I wonder what games they'll be adding in the future. FFVII? FFXI? Perhaps Rapture whenever it comes out?

I assume it wouldn't replace PlayOnline, but would just be for the direct download of the game itself? Letting PlayOnline handle subscriptions, content IDs, and customer service.

I just hope the games aren't region locked like with D2D. But then again is not like many people from MX play SE games I guess.

nope, games from Steam are never region locked iirc ^^

I don't think they will add FFXI to the list, considering playonline is needed. I can see old FF titles which are available for PC will most likely be added to Steam (take FF7, FF8 for example)

idk, I trust Steam more than other download services generally. Sure, the service sucks on occasion, but they make up for it with Valve's pretty kickass line-up.

I'm glad they did this if only because The Last Remnant demo is the first thing they put up.

It saved me a good $50.

I do believe they are. As a german customer I wasn't able to purchase Silent Hill Homecoming in february although it has been available on steam since november. There are a lot of titles that I can't access, Steam keeps telling me "This product is not up for purchase in your region" or something like that.

              So, meh.

Yeah, I tried buying the Fall of Max Payne not long ago and got the same message.

To each their own, I enjoyed LR. What I didn't enjoy was the load bs but after I d/l'd it to my hd this was pretty much gone. The other issue I had was nausea....I got motion sickness. So there were only certain times I could play because I had to take Dramamine in order to play the frickin thing. But other than that, the story was good, controls decent, and I had fun playing it. I will say this is a game for more avid gamers than casual gamers. It has a very steep learning curve and certain "issues" that a casual gamer will see as overwhelming flaws and toss it aside. It's not for the faint of heart.
