I don't doubt SE didn't have a problem with going cross platform, but is it necessary to delay the US release so it can come out for both at the same time? It can still be cross-platform, but why was it necessary to delay the US's ps3 release to coincide with the 360 one? The way it is now, there's big numbers for both consoles on release. PS3 first means big numbers for PS3 and nothing to start off with for 360. 360 will eventually get the port, but they'll lose some sells to people willing to buy a ps3 to play it sooner. It seems plausible that MS payed SE to delay the US release so it could be released for both platforms at the same time.

Ok so hold on a sec. I'll admit, I didn't read the OP's article at all until just now. I just saw people going "boo hoo we won't get the game until later" WHICH IS THE WAY IT HAS BEEN MOST OF THE TIME and dismissed it. Ok so I read the article and I'm still wondering where people are getting that the 360 and PS3 versions are being released at the same time. This is all I got from the article:

"Overseas launches of the latest "Final Fantasy" game will come in the business year from April 2010 or later, Wada said.
Square Enix will offer the latest version, "Final Fantasy XIII", for both Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 in North America and Europe, and exclusively for the PS3 in Japan"

Ok to me that means release date for either of the versions is going to be April of 2010 OR LATER. Now that "or later" could mean that one is in April and another one is later. Then I see where it just states that FFXIII will be on both systems but only PS3 in Japan. I just don't see any statement about it coming out on both systems at the same time. If someone has an official statement about that please link me.

Now, on to the point of the thread.......pissing and moaning about the release date. Here....let me explain this. People won't like it but tough noogies.

A) Companies like profits. Stockholders of companies like profits.
B) A fiscal year runs from March to March. So profits that are made in a fiscal year make happy stockholders. Happy stockholders = healthy company
C) Releasing FFXIII in Dec. of 2009 in Japan probably means a healthy fiscal year for SE in 2009. A healthy fiscal year means...*see above*
D) Waiting to release FFXIII in the US until April of 2010 (which you should note is in the NEXT fiscal year) probably means another healthy fiscal year for SE. Yada yada *see above*
E) That's TWO healthy fiscal years..............or just one. Hmmmm....what should we do?? Probably have one great year or 2 financially sound years???
F) They don't give a rats ass when you want the game because they are trying to please their stockholders and line their own pockets. Welcome to the real world.

I didn't know people still demonized Microsoft. I thought that ended around the new millennium.

I also don't know how this qualifies as SE screwing over the western world. Refusing to release it at all is screwing us over. I'll say thank you to Square Enix, for giving us information as to when it will be released in NA. And, as a 360 owner, thanks in advance for giving me the opportunity to play FFXIII without buying a PS3.

The best way to "protest" is simply importing the japanese version of the game so the sales go there instead of NA (and I say "protest" because we are going to buy their game anyway.)

Yep. If you don't like what a game company is doing, TALK WITH YOUR CASH; not by saying "lol I'm going to give you guys money anyway, only I'm going to do it NOW instead of IN SIX MONTHS! HAHAHAHAHA".

And by talk with your cash, I don't mean pirate. I mean don't play the fucking game. If it bugs you that much, you'll live. If it doesn't bug you that much, then it's not a freaking issue, is it?

The only issue I have with the US release date being pushed back a year is that it means the UK release date will be inevitably be pushed back by three years shortly followed by a JP exclusive updated rerelease.

I bought a PS3 two weeks ago for this, with the full knowledge that SE probably would end up delaying it, and swearing some nonsense like they did about VII: AC's simultaneous release fuck up.

But since I can't be sure my jobs will be around when XIII comes out, I figured I might as well buy the PS3 now and get it out of the way. lulz. Not that I play anything on it. Lack of RPGs makes me weep, and Oblivion lacks the DLC the 360 has. ;-;

Not really a reason to have a PS3 if you're an RPG gamer at this point, the selection is dismal.

I just don't understand the butthurt when 360 seems to have so many other good RPGs going for it. I'm sure you guys will find a way to pass the time and that you won't die for not having FFXIII til next year.

I do well saving without one, and don't really want to mess with it. The amount of money they gain is paltry, really, anyway. Wouldn't be making very much, and I do just as well making sure I set aside a certain amount on my own.

The point was that at least one of my two jobs is not looking stable, and I thought I'd get a major purchase out of the way, leaving the minor and more feasible one for if I'm reduced to one job.

That and I had a $100 gift card and figured: "Why the hell not?" and bought it.

Valkyria I looked into, not my thing. I am gonna d/l Suikoden at some point, though. I need to find Suikoden V, for that matter.
