Good news, FFXIII has been dated for.....

APRIL 2010!

Oh yes, Japan get it some time in 2009, but because of the lovely 360 launch we have to wait untill over a year away. Just if you wanted another reason to hate 360's and microsoft all you PS3 owners.

It'll probably get delayed. I believe the Xbox 360 base isn't as large as the PS3 base in Japan, so it makes perfect sense for them to shave it off completely and save money, at the same time it can potentially boost PS3's sales?

Assuming the half year or so rule, that means FFXIII won't be released in Japan until about October 2009.

Unless you were looking to import it for the Xbox, but I gave up playing JP games as I now want to understand what's going on instead of referring to a guide all the time.

Yeah, they shouldn't release it MONTHS later in North America. It's a shame that they would ever make us wait for Final Fantasy.

Looking at the OP's location, I think we (I'm in the same location) will have to wait a further 6 months.

I posted more or less exactly what Feba posted but then realised the OP is talking about the targetted consoles it'll be on rather than the wait date? So I took it out. But yeh I was going to say, this is nothing new.

Except for the fact that SE made that whole big announcment a few months back stating they didn't want to do staggered releases for major games anymore and were going to try and focus on global releases so people all got the game at the same time.

That was until M$ through wads and wads of cash at SE to try and buy away FFXIII's PS3 exclusivity.

This is nothing new, its to be expected.

Seriously, Final Fantasy games have come to the US eight to ten months after they appear in Japan anyway. Probably can tack on about four to six extra months for the 360 release, at that.

Do people honestly believe these game companies just sit there producing one game at a time? Well, they don't.

I won't deny that I'd like SE to take some notes from Atlus and work on their turnaround times for things like localization, but I've learned not to be surprised by the slowness of the localization and their ports for quite some time now. I can't get worked up over it.

Or it was because they realized that lots of Japanese RPGs were being released on the 360 and they wanted in on that.

Or because they realized exclusivity is a big risk this generation.

MS money hats could be involved, but I think there was a bit more to it this time.

Eventually Pie-In-The-Sky ideas have to fall to the ground of reality.

Porting and localizing is not an easy task. You either release on one when it's ready and make money while you finnish of the rest or you sit on one finished product that could be making money while you spend money finishing the other.

And honestly beyond pimply teenagers who haven't seen the light of day, have nothing better to do and are going to buy the game anyway, who cares. It just means you spend your money a few months later then you were planning.

Wasn't it announced that the NA PS3 version of FFXIII would be specifcially delayed around the same time that the 360 stated they were getting it?

You mean like Infinite Undiscovery? Published by SE and released worldwide within a week of it's initial launch? Or The Last Remnant, which again, coming from SE and again, released world wide for the 360 only on the same day? FFXIII was going to be done for all versions of the PS3 all at the same time. But the NA/EU version is being delayed to correspond with the NA/EU 360 versions. The JP one is being released on time because there is not going to be a JP 360 version.

Reality is, SE has been pretty damn consistent as of late with it's major titles. Even Chrono Trigger for the DS got released at the same time for NA/JP areas. FFXIII was going to be another title that was going to see global release until M$ got involved. FFXIII was never intended for the 360 as it will have to be downgraded to even get ported, as well as being held on multiple discs. The 360 didn't want the PS3 to have such a major exclusive because in the end that's how they win the "console war". Not with a better system, but with "more" exclusives.

So what? It doesn't mean NAs would have gotten it on time regardless. History tells us otherwise.
