I would love to see e-books come down in price so that more people could afford them and the printed medium would leave less of an enviromental impact. But, I don't think that is going to happen for quite some time.

And if someone needs more than one e-book, they aren't doing it right. My e-book has expandable memory so at the most I'd have to carry around some tiny memory sticks. To have to buy an additional e-book would be friggin expensive.

As for subscriptions, I am subscribed to about 90% of the gaming magazines out there.....plus several other mags such as National Geographic, Popular Science, Smithsonian, etc. (My mail lady would like to shoot me!) Play is also my favorite all system magazine. I find I can count on their reviews more than I can a more immature publication. Personally, EGM was on the low end of the stick for me. I'm not upset one bit that its gone, I'm just wondering about my subscription that was until 2011.
I was talking about a more general use for them to replace paper though.

Something along the lines of having Scrolls back, but instead of being just a simple piece of paper it would be a foldable personal computer capable of not only give you the latest info in real time but also handle basic functions like taking notes, internet access and video/audio play back. All with a touch screen and without the need for a keyboard.

They could be either flat rigid panels for multipurpose e-paper or foldable for portable e-readers.

And the technology is already available so it's only a matter of time. And given the market is moving towards cheaper more convenient personal computing I don't lose hope I'll see them in the market in a decade or so.

Ya they've had that in some movies or tv shows recently too. Damn it but I don't remember which. I just remember seeing them using it and thinking how awesome it would be and how much better than my e-book it was! I certainly hope I can stick around to see the application of it.........I love technology!

So are the people that subscribe to EGM just SOL on their subscription fees?

Re: Electronic Gaming Monthly is no more!

Well I haven't heard a thing from them yet. My subscription is until 2011 because I've subscribed to other publications that went belly up and they extended my EGM subscription. (I'd rather they didn't but it was better than throwing the money away.....I think.)

              Ew.

It's like a more subtle fresh-cut wood/sawdust for me, or at least, that's the closest thing I can think of. Maybe it's just a habit . . .

                  I love it, too.

Honestly, reading all my books on a back-lit plastic POS is not high on my 'do want' list. I take good care of my books, they'll be around a while.

I'm myopic enough without yet *more* glaring screens to exacerbate the problem.

If the e-book I used had a glaring screen, I wouldn't be using it. In fact, its not even backlit, I use a reading light to read in the dark. At my age also, the e-book s awesome because I can increase the size of the letters. (Ya ya...here come Feba with some smart ass remark...) And its not a POS thank you very much. It saves the page I last viewed, the battery lasts many many hours before needing to be recharged, and its taken quite a bit of abuse too. It even displays pictures so I load lots of pics of the grandkids on it and its like having a digital picture frame. (Not to mention it does audio books and mp3's too.)

We can be environmentally friendly and still have paper.

quite honestly, I don't much care about the whole 'environmentally friendly' bit of ebooks. I mean, it's a huge bonus, but the far bigger advantage is the whole "keep an entire library in your pocket" thing. Where a single deadtree edition might not be able to fit in a purse, you can fit more books into your pocket than are in your local library. Ebooks also have better screens for long periods of reading than laptops have, and far better battery life.
