So I bought an Elite finally on Boxing Day.

Been working fine for the most part until today. I've had a couple of glitches starting it up and just a few hours ago Halo 3 has gone all to hell.


The game lags like hell both online and offline and I have no clue what to do about it. My connection is perfect and no one is downloading anything the game just fucks up on me. Also, my Xbox is much quieter running it than other games for some reason now... I don't think it's even reading it off the disc properly because it made a lot more noise before.

Also, before when I went to my X-Menu (or w/e it's called when you hit the Xbox button and I don't mean the dashboard) instead of saying "Play Halo 3" at the bottom it now says "Play game in Disc" which to me means running it off the disc rather than the HDD... except the game isn't installed.


What the FUCK Microsoft?! My PS3 and Wii haven't given me a lick of grief since I bought them and your shitbox 360 E-1337 breaks on me only 3 days after buying it.

I've had my Elite a long time now and have had no problems.

Bad luck, perhaps. We had a Sega Genesis that came out of the box with a malfunctioning second controller port. Shit happens. Happens more often with 360's, though...

Either send it in for RRoD fix, or take it back to the store, since it's only been a few days. Supposedly the newest chipset has started to hit the markets, but there's no way to tell from the box/case which chipset your 360 is running. I'd personally wait for about 6 months/a year until it's mostly the newer ones out there before buying one if I didn't have one already.

My brother's 360 finally RRoD'd a few weeks back, and he's just going to wait for a few months and buy an Elite.

Um, that's all normal. All except the lag, and that might be a problem with the game as well as the Xbox 360. The play game on disc is what is says for all games.

I've never had the lag problem before, and I've sent two different Xbox 360s in for repair. Each time they sent me a completely new 360. You know you're having problems when you see the red lights.

The play game on disc is what is says for all games.

It should actually say the game title, not just "game in disc."

Regardless, it ALWAYS says that there, even if you are in fact playing that game from disk at that moment.


I'd say you should try a different Halo 3 disc and see if you still get the same problems. If it's not the disc then it's your brickbox and hopefully you can exchange it.

As much as I dislike Microsoft, this is hardly exclusive to them. Caring about your product or consumers nowadays is considered a bonus.

That's weird, elite's are supposed to be the ones that don't break.
Can you take it back? If so just swap it.

thats not all entirely true, you need to make sure your Xbox360 has the new motherboards, even some Elites (if they have been sitting there for a bit) have the older ones.

Was it downloaded to your HDD ? Halo 3 is actually the one game that performs like sh!tty dog balls when you download it to your HDD. Bungie has said it is because it was designed to be read from disk so basically if you download it to your HDD it reads off both and does twice the work...

If Halo3 was not downloaded to your HDD... [I don't know how to answer your question] or it may be that Halo3 is the most played game on XBLA and typically after Xmas (nd any huge releases) XBLA is way bogged down by new users and trouble'd new MP portions of games.

It's funny, I've had more problems with my Playstations than any Xbox I've ever owned. Read disc errors, over heating, disc skipping, etc are all huge issues I've had with my Playstations as have hundreds of thousands of other people. I'm not making any excuses for MS's RROD because there is none but lets not forget that this type of shoddy craftsmanship isn't exclusive.

I think he's referring to graphics or processor lag. I'm not sure how a laggy connection would affect your ability to play offline.

So I brought my disc over to my friend's house last night and I can rule that out since it played perfectly fine.

My connection speed also mysteriously went down by 1 bar but is still fairly solid so I don't know what's going on. When I popped in Gears of War 2 last night the opening cinema froze for a second but that was the only hiccup I experienced.

*sigh* I'm gonna try getting a long ethernet cable so I don't have to use a wireless connection. If that *still* doesn't do it then I'm convinced it's my box.

Probably the kind where you are shooting someone and thinking you are getting headshots but a few seconds later your lag catches up and he's teabagging your corpse.
