  • Keiji Inafune Interested in Reviving STRIDER, BREATH OF FIRE, and More MEGAMAN

In a recent interview with 1up, Capcom god Keiji Inafune mentioned that he's interested in creating new games in the Breath of Fire and Strider properties.

He also says that he "has hope to make a new Mega Man Legends." (Eff yes.)

In addition, he mentions that Capcom does currently hold the rights to all of Clover Studios' titles, but Capcom has no interest in creating sequels to God Hand, Viewtiful Joe or Okami.

It's not all bright and cheery though; he does counterpoint Capcom's great interest in next-gen revivals by stating that despite there being interest in many franchises, Capcom may not have the resources necessary to do whatever they'd like.

The full interview is available here at 1up. It's a good read if you're a fan.

I'm not big into the BoF series, but I did play the PS2 one a little bit and it fell on the "meh" side to the point of hardly leaving an impression on me. If I remember correctly it was one of those games that had randomized dungeons and it was in a bad way.

A revival of Strider is welcomed, but I fear it would get sucked into the DMC "stylish action" genre. Some games its just more fun to rush though areas like a buzzsaw and not worry so much about avoiding hits.

If they're going for another MML title, might be good just to remake the others while they're at it. The old games kinda felt janky, for lack of a better word. I know Capcom has it in them to do good RPG-ish games.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about Legends 3. Inafune has expressed his interest in it year after year (it's his favorite MM series and he claims he wants to make it before he dies), but it's more profitable for Capcom to make more of their cash cow games.

I would much rather they make a MML3 than a remake though. Just look at what happened to Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X - they didn't sell well, and as a result, they won't be making further remakes of those series. If they spent money on a MML remake and it didn't sell well, our chances at MML3 would be pretty much shot.

There was a PSP port for MML1 but it was only in Japan.

What's wrong with that? As long as it's straight, psychotically fast paced action and no puzzles like the old games it'd be perfect.

Powered Up was a little too cutesy, but Maverick Hunter X was awesome. Low sales be damned (I blame the new generation who don't accept anything below 128-bit graphics) I want more MM remakes!

Controlling the buster could be fun with the Wiimote, or they could go for the 360/PS3 3D path and have fully interactive environments. If you think quick man was a pain in the ass before, just wait until he's zipping around you in 3D >.>

I think you're confusing them for some other games. None have randomized dungeons and the PS2 one is the most... uh... impression leaving of them all. The previous ones where generic Dragon Quest clones.

The first 4 BoF games where the best, everything after that was crap

you call the early BoF games DragonQuest clones, and they are not, the one that sucked was the one after BoF 4

As much as I like them, the first three are really blatant DQ knockoffs. And as much as I disliked Dragon Quarter, I don't know how anyone can play it a few hours and not have it leave an impression (favorable or otherwise.)

I loved Breath of Fire. IV and Dragon Quarter were just pwnsomely fun. I loved the hell out of Dragon Quarter, even though I think most everyone hated it.

I've played BoF3 countless times, and hell I'll play it again. BoF4 was also a good game. I enjoyed the story a lot more than I did the 3rd installment, although Rei > Cray as the playable Woren character(might be because I was in my teens when I played 3).

And MAVERICK HUNTER X ROCKED. I still own the UMD for that, and makes me sad they aren't going forward to cover up to X3, and possibly replace X4's crappy voice acting.

Thank you. Capcom had intended to make more of these but the sales were just too low in Japan. As an avid Mega Man fan this infuriates me to no end. I got started on video games with Mega Man 2!

It's a damn shame that Inafune doesn't have the financial freedom to just make whatever he wants. Then again, Mega Man 9 did exceedingly well so who knows?

Just curious, who here has even played Strider? Much as I love Ninja Gaiden, Ryu Hayabusa has got nothing on Strider Hiryuu. I ain't never seen another video game where you can swing a sword that fast!

Ah fun. Make it a 3D free-roamer and we've got pure win.

Which I don't deny, but that does not mean it's not a DQ clone...
