      So.....

      Vana' Diel

1000 Years in the future? Maybe mix in some more Technology, based on the power of the crystals? Have jobs like Gun Knight, Chemist, Robo-technician, etc. Include all the jobs we have now, but make it so like there's some cataclysm that unlocks them to the general populus. I don't know, I'm stretching here. I like vana'diel though, a thousand years in the future would work pretty good though.

/pizza (No, really, everquest had this) + a good macro system.

Actually, come to think of it SE, put a Bash-like shell next time.

Oh man, there would be so much possibility in there with aliases, functions... throw in a timer (cron? I've never messed with it actually) for the win. Throw in a system that reacts to conditions as they appear (I forget the technical term for this), and you've basically remade gambits at least over 9000 times better.

                  *Clears throat*

                  What 9000!?

I'm hoping SE's next MMO involves a bit of a faster pace combat wise. Other than that, the pizza thing would be great, if SoE can do it, so can SE.

anyway I could see many elements that made FFXI good make it into their next RPG, even if it was not FF based

                    --job changing
                    --sub jobbing
                    --character and job separated stats
                    --good story ;p
                    --good art direction
                    1) chrono cross had a battle system that is extrememly innovative, and unique. Its definally not standard rpg type.

                    2) All thos things aside from good story and art direction are basic elements of MMORPG. The only MMORPG that doesn't follow normal MMORPG rules is pretty much WoW.

I hope the MMO is not final fantasy. I love FF, but I thought EQ2 and GW2 are stupid ideas. DO soemthing new, not more of the same, thats what expansions are for. People will still play ff, and if you make another ff mmo, people will get pissed, because it will be a seperate game, and no transfer of current albeit non-real accomplishments.

And then you have to admit to yourself that, even if it is another Final Fantasy MMO, you'd still play it.

It follows the rules more than you think, it's just not completely obvious at first glance.

I played it while on my break from ffxi. I'm familiar with it. It follows little "general" mmo rules. Basically being a platformer? NO subclasses? Seriously, it has some similarities, but its severly lacking.

And yes i would play the new ff mmo, but i would still be pissed lol, as the majority of players one would think. Perhaps I am mistaken.

The ability to jump does not make anything a platformer. WoW has all the basics of a standard MMO but isn't completely obvious about it like I mentioned.

-Class system which forces more rigid grouping for boss quests or exp/rep grinding

-Easily soloable to endgame, at which point you need a group for everything

-Reputation system which forces players to grind for hours upon hours doing faction quests

-Endgame gearsets that become useless after each new update

It has everything. It even has unbalanced player versus player content and a revolving nerf bat that breaks a randomly picked class during each version update.

I'll give you all that except the bolded. Mages, wars, plds, druids, and rogues can all tank endgame bosses quite effiecently. They are also all very good DD's. And half of the classes are great nukers. So.... rigid grouping structure? Definite no. I've seen a mage and a rogue 5-man Gruul's and Illidan. Youtube it if you doubt me.

And no need for grouping... ever.... it so easy to solo to max level in three months? No need for grouping ever unesless you want twink drops that become useless in three levels. Grouping or a 75 to run you is needed for twinking, but hardly anything else, expect late games bosses where structure doesn't matter and there is no exp, and your doing only to get gears or see the abyssmal story.

Your Googlefu is not strong enough.

If you actually played the game you'd be aware that grouping can and does happen for instances, and many of the game's quests involve going into these instances with a group of other people. These groups require certain classes depending on where you're at/what level you are as players learn key abilities that aid in crowd control and stuns. So telling me that a few level 80 people can beat on an older raid boss and trying to use that to say that the game does not have a rigid class based grouping system is rather inaccurate. Very inaccurate, even.
