Eh, tbh the PS3 and 360 are both capable of far more than what PC's are these days.

Well, I think this generation should stick around considerably longer than the previous ones. MMOs based on PS3 and 360 wouldn't be horrible ideas.

The "Abandon the PS2?" question at Fanfest (I believe it was a Stractics question) was one of many /facepalm questions to ask. Seeing as PS2 users still exist in the game and rather signifigantly, SE cannot ignore supporting them.

The fact that Sony didn't continue with helping them do emulation support, coupled by the fact that the man working on that stuff with SE has not been replaced... Oh and the fact that PS3 abandoned PS2 backward compatability and new models - none of these things are the fault of SE. At the same time, they're not good reasons to abandon legit users.

Remember back to Ruins of Kunark on EQ... the forced upgrading of the PC just to play that expansion did not go over well. In fact, the most popular business model in MMOs is, in fact, to skew to the lowest common denominator with PCs. Its a part of WoW's success.

Can't reach the largest audience on PC if you cater only to the guys with the highest-end PCs. So even then, there are PCs "holding back" other users.

As far as FFXI goes, there's nothing wrong with how it looks, really. I'm sure that, in time, Sony and SE will have a PS3 compatible version of FFXI, its just that Sony continues to fuck SE over on supporting this game. Dropping the ball like that time and again is part of what set SE onto the multi-platform approach, they just couldn't stay exclusive to Sony anymore.

DCU Online will be PC and PS3 supported. I kind of have a feeling that's why Sony drops the ball on FFXI. They did the same thing when FFXI appeared to be everything Everquest Online Adventures was not, they practically murdered their own teams to throw support behind FFXI and then even ripped that away when they realized they didn't have the resources to keep the HDDs out there.

This is why I'm just a little wary of DCU. It has that license I love and looks to be a good game, yet I have to look at how Sony has affected FFXI and EQOA - what happens when this one doesn't sell millions like they hoped? Abandon ship? Find a new golden boy MMO? Go back to milking Everquest?

With Sony, I just don't know. I'd feel better about a new 360 MMO at this point.

It's supposed to exist alongside FFXI, so would they really try to tap their FF fanbase twice? It would be smarter to appeal to fans of other IPs, and hope there's minimal overlap.

Bal: I think that it could be limited a little, but only as much as RMT would rely on botting. I think if RMT were determined enough though, it wouldn't make as much a difference as you might think.

The reason why RMTs use PC to exploit the game is because it's much easier. All they need to do modify is the software a bit. While using exploits on consoles would probably require for them to also modify hardware.

However they are simply going through the path of less resistance here, so if the game was on consoles only they would do exactly the same with the easiest console to break (in this case probably the 360), and not much would change.

The way I see it to stop RMT you need to at least:

-Stop people from buying from them (ban cheaters who buy currency)
-Work on game mechanics that make the buying of currency/characters/items less attractive.
-Have a good system to spot and ban RMTers

If only SE knews that THESE were the things they needed to do to stop RMT. It's so simple.

Sorry, but that just contributes to the roar of people screaming SE sux!!11! It's a lot like saying "The way to stop RMT is by stopping them." Well duh. Unfortunately it's not nearly that simple, and it's almost impossible to restrict RMT globally without marginalizing at least part of your legit player base. RMT is a problem in every MMO- and always will be. From my point of view, SE handles it rather well.

RMT is not a problem related to PCs its a problem related to MMORPGs in general

I love how some people act like RMT is this rare thing and that it happening in FFXI is some monstrosity.... but as long as there are MMOs there will be RMT to some extent.

Is it profitable for a company that sells gil to buy consoles for their one game? a PC is equally or more expensive but it does run many games so its value is increased, but a console doesnt run as many online games so there might be a LITTLE TINY BIT of a chance, maybe as little as my tiny brain, that it might maybe just maybe make a gold farming company think twice.

That still does not matter, just because a game is not on PC, does not mean there wont be any RMT, or even hackers/bots.

Just because its a game system, means nothing, especially now since the newer systems are becoming more and more like PCs themselves.

And yes, it does matter, there will most certainly be less RMT if they did that, but there would also be less players so no way they'd do it.

BTW, have any of you seen the now very old 1-min clip from SE showing off their engine for this game? The graphics were very reminiscent of FFXI or FFXII, but more polished and smooth. My money's on a continuation of the FF franchise- it's such a money maker and so many people love it that the game doesnt even need to be good to get a lot of people to buy it up front.

My money is not on actually getting new info. about the game this summer.
