SE has been talking about it for years.
Can't remember a specific date, but I think interest mainly sparked when they showed the White Engine tech video as a concept of what Rapture (then un-codenamed) could possibly look like.

No actual pictures have been released nor dates announced. A recent article in EGM suggested they may reveal the MMO in more detail in June at e3.

I wouldn't mind if SE's new MMO was more futuristic than FFXI. Not as far as space shuttles and crap, but at least basic motor transportation and such. I can't tell you how much I'd love to ride around on a motorbike of some sort, crossing a field of enemies.

Hell, maybe some more guns too. Not fully-automatic guns, but maybe a job like ranger could pull short bursts for extra damage?

FF8 is the most popular ff to date. It was close with ff7, but in an actual poll, ff8 won. Thousands upon thosands of pollers too.

I think Ivalice would be the best FF universe to set an MMO on, if they wanted to make a different FF MMO. They could set it in a different time period from FFXII and Tactics; maybe around Ajora's time.

Super Mario Bros sold tons more copies then Super Mario Bros 3 or Mario64, but I pretty sure which is the more popular.

Mustangs are the most bought car in america, but I wouldn't say they are the most popular.

Sales does not equal popularity. Movies in box office and dvd sales. Compare boondock saints to pulp fiction and it just goes to show you.

ff7- us -2.45 million

ff8-japan-3,501,588
ff8-us-1.91 million

ff7- total -5.72 million
ff8-total- 5.41 million

looks like 8 sold more copies in Japan....
And overall was just a coupla hundred thousand under ff7..
