      Re: Persona 2 re-release

      Here's the thing:

Persona 2 just needs to be remade completely. This was back when Atlus sucked at localizing things and were bent on Americanizing the look and feel of the story instead of just keeping it Japanese and translating it over to english.

        Re: Persona 2 re-release

I never got into the Persona series. Not even sure what it is, though I have heard a lot about it.

I think part of the problem is I never played the first one so I never played a sequel, and I've got waaaaaaaay too many games as it is.

Anyway, I'm curious as to why they didn't put this up on PSN, it would have made a good release on there, and the service is desperately lacking PS1 games.

          Re: Persona 2 re-release

Similar to Final Fantasy, there's no large continuity for Shin Megami Tensei games like Persona. Persona 3 doesn't have any ties to the first two games and the first to games had rather loose ties.

There are some connections between Persona 3 and Persona 4, but nothing that would keep you from playing and enjoying Persona 4 as a stand-alone game.

There are actually very few direct sequels in the series, just fun little references to previous games they throw in to fuck with you. Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner and its forthcoming sequel are really the only recent SMT games to have any kind of continuity.

Persona 3 was a large success, though, so much they made a pseudo sequel out of the Persona 3 FES, a special edition with a sequel chapter added to the game. Additionally, it was the first game in the series to inspire an anime that takes place ten years after the events of Persona 3, called Persona: Trinity Soul.

So you can just jump right in to Persona 4 with no worries.

I did play Noctourne, but didn't like it too much, what with every other enemy having a spell to instantly kill me or enfeeble me to the point I can't do jack.

Knowing that, yay or nay to P4?

Well, with Nocturne, a lot of your strength and weakeness had to do with the Magatama you were using at the time. Most characters in Persona 3 and 4 have a fixed elemental strength and weakness, though the hero character can control more than one persona, so his strengths and weaknesses will also change.

Good part is you'll have an oracle-type of character that assists the party and can scan for enemy strengths and weaknesses. After you've had them scan a particular enemy once, you'll know thier weakness for the rest of the game. Well, cept bosses are harder to read.

You summon Personas for magic and certain physical attacks, they don't fight alongside you like in Nocturne. Similar to Nocturne, you'll get an extra turn for exploiting the enemys weakness, but you also achive a knock-down status on them. If you can get all the enemies knocked down in one turn, your party is given the option to do an "all out attack" which will let you gang up on your enemies and basically beat the crap out of them.

Unlike Persona 3, Persona 4 will let you control the actions of all your allies. P3 your other party members were AI controlled, but they attacked intelligently if you use your Oracle and if you didn't, they'd quickly learn from thier mistakes.

Another difference is that while there is a good/bad ending and choices to make along the way, a huge focus of the game is building friendships. Your character will go to high school every day and the bonds he forms with the friends he makes will strengthen certain types of persona he can use. Its similar to a dating-sim, but its not as overbearing as it sounds. You character will also given the option of persuing part-time jobs. But don't worry, there's still plenty of dungeon crawling to be had just about every night in the game.

I wouldn't say its an easier game, but I do find it a lot more forgiving than Nocturne.

I might check it out, then, sounds interesting.

I don't know how I"m gonna fit it in, though, with a bunch of other games I want that just released/are releasing soon, though.
