XBL is being a pain in my ass

My 360 likes to randomly d/c from Live. This is during times when the connection is functioning just fine, as I am often surfing or using a messenger service while playing some games and I'm not experiencing problems.

It's always done it here and there, I'll get booted from XI rather abruptly sometimes, without even the 'ping' at the top registering that my connection has died. I'll just get a nice pop up about server time outs and drop. Usually I d/c from Live about the same time, but not always.

I've noticed it more in the past few days while playing Fable 2. I don't have any friends with it yet so it's not a major issue, but nearly every 10-20 minutes I get d/c from Live and can't figure out why. I can log right back in, but I'm worried about when I start to play Co-Op if it's going to toss me every few minutes.

I can't figure out what the problem is, I even managed to get my router to allow open NAT instead of the strict (just turned on UPnP, really) and all the network tests come up just fine.

Is there something wrong with my console, the ethernet cord, or is someone trying to jack my Live account (lolunlikely)? Baffled, and vaguely annoyed. I can't even play XI on it anymore because I'm worried about randomly dropping. Back to the PS2 until I figure it out. ._.

My XBL has been acting wonky the last few days, too, as have some of my friends, so I don't think it's just you. They're working on getting the new Dashboard (or whatever they call it) rolled out next month and ready to go, so I'm not surprised that service is getting weird lately.

Shit, even before all that, playing GTA IV online in particular has always been a crap shoot. Try entering a Multiplayer Deathmatch from party mode with more then 3 people and you WILL drop someone, if you don't get Dashboarded instead. Quite annoying...

At any rate, if your NAT tests to OPEN you should be good on your end. I actually went through, setup the 360 on a static IP, and forwarded the ports manually (UDP 88, UDP 3074, and TCP 3074), so you can maybe try that? I doubt it'll make a difference, since your NAT tests as OPEN now, but it's something easy to try, and if it doesn't work, easy to revert...

I must say that when ur fully loged into FFXI and ur playing. you can be disconnected from XBL and still play. XBL is just the tool to log into playonline and all.

I use to log into Live and then intentionaly disconnect from live so I wouldnt be bothered with invites while I play. so I cant real confirm what your problem truely is

I remember the day the 360 Webcam whatchamacallit came out (So what if I don't remember what its called), I tried to get online to play FFXI and Battlefield 2 and that day there was a network lockup and I think it was caused because of it. I had never had problems with the network before that day, and so I got on gamefaqs and a bunch of other people were having the same problem and attributed it to most likely being the fault of the webcam. Next day and ever since then it has worked fine, So it wouldn't surprise me if it was because of the network update coming out.

You've never heard the word "wonky" before? That was like a standard descriptor in our tech shop, at least as describes networking issues...before we went out of business anyways. Maybe it's cause we used words like "wonky" on tickets

Is your 360 connected wirelessly (if so, via the official adapter, or which other) or through cable?

As a poster said above, once you're connected into FFXI, it doesn't matter if you're disconnected from Live. Like when there's Live maintenance, if you're already in FFXI, it won't boot you, but you just can't log in. Its possible there's a connection issue w/ the console.
