    Re: Dead Space

Don't listen to Yahtzee, he's full of crap.

His reviews are funny but he gets paid to rip on them. He's also way off on the Ripper >_> yes the thing can be deadly as all get out but unless you're bitching stasis with the refill cheat you're going to get owned using that thing against a group.

PC + Line Gun is all you need for like 85~90% of the game if not more.

And yes, Silent Hill 2 is perhaps the greatest survival horror game ever.

      1- It's Zero Punctuation.
2- Yahtzee almost always has a good point behind what he's saying.
3- Zero Punctuation DOES NOT DO GAME REVIEWS.

Zero Punctuation is as much about reviewing games as The Daily Show is about delivering the news. Yes, there is some serious content as a base, but it's COMEDY. The point is NEVER to provide a good summation of the game's strengths and weaknesses and from that inform someone as to whether they would like the game or not. The point is to list some of the games flaws, and then give hilarious analogies for them.

This is why he can spend four or five minutes bashing the crap out of a game, making it sound awful, and then heartily demand that you buy it and play it because it's awesome. Taking Zero Punctuation as reviews is sort of like taking a roast as a biography. Everyone knows that there's going to be some truth in it, there might be some sour parts that hit close to home, but everyone also understands that they're done in good fun. If you listen to them outside of that context, you're going to wind up with a very twisted view of the subject being joked about.

I'd have to disagree with the Ripper bit, it's easily the best weapon in the game. They hand you ammo for it like candy and a single shot is enough to drop almost anything. I kept the Contact Beam for bosses and to sell off all the extra ammo, but I rarely ever used anything but the Ripper, and the only time I used Stasis on enemies was for the 2 or 3 Brutes you fight throughout the game and the Stasis Slashers that move at over 9000 miles per hour.

        *5 minutes later*

After watching the Zero Punctuation review I have to say aside from the bit about the Ripper and the little swarmy things he exaggerates everything. I suppose if you happen to have played EVERY SINGLE SURVIVOR HORROR GAME IN EXISTENCE as he apparently has it might seem like a rip off. The fact that it used the same over the shoulder 3rd person view as RE4 is what drew me to the game in the first place.

And I liked Isaac as a character. He was basically a random engineer that ends up on a ship full of some fcked up aliens but manages to kick ass and chew bubblegum with only a handful of mining tools and a rather strange suit.

            Question about the game.

Which type of "scary" is it?

Resident Evil scary: Monsters pop out of nowhere w/ loud noises to try to shock you.
Eternal Darkness scary: Game seriously fucks with you.

Definitely "Resident Evil scary". In the beginning it has more of a creepy, screwing with your mind type effect but once you get a good length into the game you start to expect when things are gonna come at you.

Actually, he was spot on about Isaac and how the game borrows heavily from Event Horizon.

But there's no way the Ripper is better than the PC. Fully upgraded, the thing destroys practically everything >.>

Seriously, how do you use the Ripper against a Stasis Slasher? They move way too fast, and fully upgraded the PC can cut their legs off in 1~2 shots (on Medium anyway, idk about Hard or Impossible; I wouldn't use anything but the Line Gun on those modes)

And the Contact Beam is SHIT! Oh my god what a horrid gun. They spread out the upgrades in such a horrible manner (particularly the damage boosts) that I can rack up the same amount of damage spamming my other guns (and sell the extra ammo for 1000 Credits a pop)

Fully upgraded it is the go-to weapon for dealing with the Dark versions of enemies, especially the Dark Brute since you don't even have to aim it much; the thing seems to do splash damage hitting all limbs at once if you strike the chest.

Honestly, between the PC and the PR I was set, using the Line Gun to deal with hordes. The PR is a total boss-killer. Screw the CB, since all the bosses have giant yellow "Hit me for massive damage" sacs in which case you're better off using the PR to guarantee multiple hits.

Thanks! I was gonna go try it out, but you saved me money. If there's a demo I might try it still, but I HATE things like that. "BOO!! SCARED YOU LOLOLOLOLOL!!!"

Which is still why Eternal Darkness is by far one of the best survival horrors out there. They're making a sequel right?

I actually wanted to use the PC more, but ammo became way too scarce for it after a while. I used it when I could, but throughout the game I had 40/50 ripper blades in my inventory almost all the time even when using the gun close to full time.

For Stasis Slashers, secondary fire. Cut off the legs and they are done. The Line Gun does work a lot better for this, but when I've got 6-8 rounds for the Line Gun vs 40-50 blades for the Ripper.. yeah.

Fully upgraded the PC would take at least 10 shots to deal the same damage as a single Contact Beam shot, and they have the same rate of fire (0.6 seconds). The only things it can't one shot are Brutes, all the boss "weak point" things can't even take more than one. It will kill the final boss with only 2 clips if you aren't missing.

If there is any failure gun in Dead Space it is the Pulse Rifle. It eats ammo like candy and doesn't have the nice, wide "cutting" shots like the other guns. I bought it thinking "hey, all my other weapons are mining tools, an ACTUAL weapon must be superior!" I was sorely disappointed.

My favorite gun was actually the Line Gun, I just used the Ripper the most because it's what I got the most ammo for and it was effective on everything. I am hoping on my second play through maybe if I sell every weapon but the Line Gun I will just get tons of ammo for it and be able to use it all the time.

Did you even bother to upgrade it? 175 rounds each hitting for about half the damage of a PC shot (and it can break off limbs quite easily if you any skill with aiming) makes for one broken ass weapon. Oo and how did you not find assloads of PC ammo? I couldn't get rid of the stuff!

FYI, the game generates random ammo based on the weapons you own, which actually likely explains why I had so much PC ammo; I only used the PC up until about chapter4 when I picked up the Line gun as well (didn't get any others until 5+) so I had tonnes of ammo for both guns <_<

Pulse Riffle is amazing if you upgrade it. Just... don't use the secondary fire. Ever. If you think the flamethrower bleeds ammo, holy shit.
