Apparently Nintendo has decided to manufacture their own Wii-branded router. The logic seems to be that the Wii and DS WiFi connectivity is not perfect, and isn't as easy to use for Wii owners with little experience with wireless networking.

In an earlier post, I asked you guys to help translate/pick apart a Club Nintendo interview with Miyamoto and Reggie. A lot of you tried your hand at a translation, and reader Demian Chrisanti was nice enough to pull the most important parts for us. I’ve posted his snippets below.

The Miyamoto part:

They ask if Wii Motion Plus will be in future Zelda games, he confirms they’re working on Zelda and Pikmin but says nothing about WM+

He talks about all the peripherals (Wheel, Balance Board…) and says there won’t be a lot more, they have enough already.

Oh, they ask him about hard drive solutions and says to expect an announcement in the future since they’re working on possible technologies.



The Reggie part:

Says Animal Crossing is not casual and that they’re gonna have GTA on the DS for the hardcore gamers. They’re not making a “hard drive” but will come up with a better solution.

They ask him about the Microsoft avatars and says “copying is a way of flattering, so we’re very flattered.”

Says a console redesign is when the sales go down, not up when asked about a DS redesign.

They also talk about the E3 and whatnot.

Honestly, they already have the Nintendo Wifi USB dongle, so I'm not too surprised. I highly doubt that this is taking any resources that would've been spent on a hard drive, in any case. And unless you download a ton of VC/WiiWare stuff, or you take huge amounts of space for Brawl/Blast Works data you're not going to need a hard drive for a long time.

I don't think a lack of a hard drive is going to drive anyone to PS3, simply because the people who would NEED a hard drive aren't going to find the games they're playing on PS3. And frankly anyone who's upset by this is just being whiny; Nintendo is a giant company, they work on multiple things at a time.

I don't need one because I use the Zelda hax and play whatever I want but I can understand why some fans would like to have a hd on their Wii. I am sick to death of my gaggle of memory sticks! Seriously! I have multiple PSP's with multiple sticks, sticks for my multiple DS's, sticks for my multiple cameras, my PDA, my camcorder, and multiple sticks for my Wii. Damn stick manufacturers are making a MINT!

I just used the USB Dongle that I bought for my damn DS, works just peachy, as I do not possess Wireless routers. Seemed very simple to use to me.
