The second line explains the first one. People aren't pissed because it 'has to be one way or the other', they're because the premise is insulting to everyone that owns a console. There are good shooters, racers, RPGs, and sports games on the Wii. There are good shooters, racers, RPGs, and sports games on the 360. There are good shooters, racers, RPGs, and sports games on the PS3. When you act like a console is only good for one type of gameplay, you piss off everyone who has ever used that console for something else; not to mention how just plain ignorant you sound about gaming in general.

If you want to play all of the titles out there, yes, you're going to need to own all three consoles. If you want to play all of the original titles that are breaking new ground in gaming (the Katamaris, the Wii Sports) yes you're going to need to own all three. However the idea that the Wii is only worth playing when you want a "fun family game" is insulting to everyone that bought the Wii for Zelda, Metroid, No More Heroes, or even Mario. The idea that 360 players are all about shooting people in the face and teabagging them is insulting to everyone who bought a 360 for the RPGs or the racing sims. The idea that the PS3 is only good as a Blu-Ray player (and I know this isn't what you were saying. It's just an example) is insulting to everyone out there who enjoys PS3 gaming.

When you insult people through your ignorance, of course they're going to seem angry. It's not that they care about the console that much, it's that you're insulting them personally by making assumptions about their tastes based on the hardware they own.

      Re: The Wii60??

I think what Vyuru was trying to say is "casual gamer". The Wii is absolutely geared towards casual gamers thats why the more avid gamers are so irritated. They throw a bone to the avid gamers now and again but for the most part it is geared towards the casual gamer and the younger generation (under 18). Is that a bad thing? No, I don't think so. Everyone should have a chance at enjoying video games and there is a market for it too. Sometimes I like to play a game of Mario Kart or Mario Party with the kids and then sometimes I want to play something more intense and in a more traditional way. (read that as without a motion controller)

The 360 is known mostly for its more mature games for avid gamers but I guess they want to change that......thus this thread. My point for the thread was "Do you think it will take off?" and in my opinion, no I don't think so. Wii has that crowd and it has them good. Look at the friggin fun ass games on the Wii and then ask yourself how in the hell MS is going to compete with that. I just can't fathom it.

        Re: The Wii60??

OK, so we are TOTALLY not what the Video Game world considers a "market"

We purchsed XBOX 360's for one and only one reason - to Play FFXI side by side

When FFXI is no more, we will more than likely get rid of them and move to the PS3's for the next gen MMO from SE and for FFXIII

But those are, in my mind, the ONLY two reasons to purchase a PS3 - there are no toher "Games" I would like to play. I don't like most games - tho I loved me some Wipeout (ps1) - that game was a blast!

First off, anyone that is insulted by a generalization of what video games they play based on the console they own, they need to get a grip. Going off the handle about someone assuming they play "kiddie" games or whatever is RIDICULOUS. I could understand if this was something that was actually important...but choice in games is absolutely not. Can you be hurt by that assumption? Does it effect you personally in any way at all? I could care less what people think of me about pretty much anything, let alone gaming.

Secondly, I'm not ignorant, and I find THAT insulting. I said when I wanna play a fun, family game, when I wanna shoot someone in the face, and that no console in MY opinion satisfies the whole gamut. I never made any generalizations at all, outside of the basic assumption that the game consoles aren't entirely equal in the game content that's offered for them. It's still my opinion, but it's an opinion based on what I see with my own 2 eyes. Everyone I know with a Wii plays cutesy, family oriented stuff on it. I'm not saying that there aren't mature games for the Wii, but are you really going to argue that it's on par with what's available for the 360, and/or the PS3 (by on par, I mean quantity, i.e., the number of options one has to choose from)? A game doesn't need to be bloody as hell for adults to enjoy it, I never said that, I enjoyed Zelda myself, but I like the option to get that type of content if I want it, and until the Wii starts releasing more games that are like that, I'm going to continue to satisfy my desires for that type of content on the 360. Hence the need for ME to own both.

I personally could care less why people bought the consoles they did, and I really don't care either way what games they play. I don't know about you, but what console people own affects my opinion of them about as much as knowing what color their underwear is, whether in a gaming sense or any sense at all for that matter, let alone what type of games they play.

No one I know, and this is my own experience so go ahead and disregard it, but no one I know bought a 360 for HD-DVD exclusively. But a LOT of people I know bought a PS3 specifically for the Blu-Ray functionality. I know people that have never even PLAYED a game on theirs, yet they own a PS3 anyways. Would it be safe for me to assume that the PS3's gaming capabilities meant nothing to them in particular? Doesn't the evidence I personally observed (no games, lots of BD movies) lend itself towards that conclusion? What other interpretation is there?

At any rate, whatever...you feel the way you do and I feel the way I do. Does it really matter?

            Re: The Wii60??

I'd enjoy a motion controller for the 360. Would've eliminated me buying a wii if they had this when it first came out and also like games on the 360. But i think i would have still purchased a wii due to Zelda, Metroid and various other wii specific games.

I'm rather enjoying this Wii likeness integration Microsoft is doing with the said rumor of a motion controller and also the upcoming new xbox 360 experience primarily the avatars (Mii).
