Games rated M != Mature games. One of the biggest flaws, in my opinion, with the way the gaming community tends to think is that a more "mature" rating equals a more mature game. There is the potential (and indeed, the existance) of mature games on the Wii. Metroid Prime 3 is of course the first that comes to mind, but I'm sure if I dug more than I'm willing to do at 7:45 AM I could find more.

Of course, I'm one of those people with the wacky opinion that I'd rather play a completely childish game that can be incredibly fun (y halo thar Super Mario Galaxy and Chocobo Dungeon!) than a mature, bloody game that just bores me/frustrates me to death.

OH HELL NO! My grandchildren aren't allowed to touch my Wii! They get the NES or the original GB but not my Wii! Hell I won't even let them near my SNES! Grandma does not share well.

TGM could you use some GBAs? I have some GBAs sitting around.

I hear the children are all crazy about the GBAs.

Yep I have those too but they don't deserve them yet.

                Re: The Wii60??

As far as the original topic goes, didn't MS come out with a motion/tilt sensing joystick/gamepad that I think flopped awhile ago? I remember hearing about it when we needed a new joystick for some of the combat flight sims my family used to play.

Still, whether or not they did have one, seems like a low blow and a ripoff of a now very popular system to try and steal the Wii's controls.

Although I think that the Wii remote+nunchuck could be fun for some of the Armored Core games, or other similiar mech combat games, each remote controls an arm. Different company I know, but I think that'd be fun.

                For the other stuff...

DS > GBA, but if they aren't even deserving of the GBA....

And TGM, I know very well how you feel. My sister isn't allowed to touch my Amiga, which is still running after all these years.

Take THAT you lousy Xbox red rings of death! You're being outdone by a machine that's about 20 years old and STILL runs fine!

Now let me tell you what I really think about the quality of MS machines

And as far as consoles and games go, I would agree that the Wii, and Nintendo, is primarily more of a kiddie game company, while Microsoft/Xbox seems more geared towards shooters/racers/action, and Sony/PS2/3 seem to be a bit of everything.

And for a casual gamer, I'm not that interested in the Xbox. Sure, I enjoyed Halo and I might like Halo 2/3, but I can also wait for those to come out for the PC versions. Which Halo 2 has and I might be tempted to pick it up now since I'll be getting a new Vista/XP machine shortly.

Too, I'm just not seeing that many games for any of these systems to make me go out and want to buy one. Sure, I see one or two, but my general rule of thumb is that a console needs 4+ games that I want to buy before I get one, especially now that we're in the $300+ price range for the consoles.

You're probably thinking of Sony's SIXAXIS. You might be thinking of MS's force feedback stuff (Sidewinder IIRC) but that was only on PC.

Only four games? Shit, have you looked at any of the games out there on consoles? I can even think of four games I'd like on the 360, which I loathe and have not been watching whatsoever.

Each person has their own likes and dislikes, while you may see a bunch of games that you'd like to buy, I don't.

And the idiot stands by his statement that Nintendo panders more to the kiddie games. Yes, they might be games that adults will like as well, but I still consider them to be more kiddie games than anything else.

Notable exceptions that come to mind are Twilight Princess(even that is pretty close to being borderline), Metroid Prime, and a few others whose names elude me at the moment.

How about Super Mario Galaxy (Kid friendly? Sure. Made for kids? Absolutely not. Also, I'd like to just take this opportunity to say fuck you to trial galaxies.), Smash Bros. Brawl (Again, kid friendly, but far from 'kiddie', and honestly older gamers will probably enjoy it more.), Fire Emblem RD, Fatal Frame IV (Yes, it's Nintendo published), Wii Sports (Not kidding. It actually has an insane amount of depth. Possibly more than some full sports games.), Twilight Princess and Corruption as you mentioned, and the numerous third party titles (as already mentioned).

Even the games that are somewhat 'kiddie' (Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii, Super Paper Mario) are still very much enjoyable for adults. I submit to you: every game you played in your childhood. Pretty much every classic SNES and N64 game I can think of, save Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. Many of them hold up just fine as classic games. Hell, Ocarina of Time was rated E, and you'd have an extremely hard time convincing most sane people that it has no place being considered one of the greatest games ever made on the basis of it being kid friendly.

                        Re: The Wii60??

We might be having more of a dispute over just what is a kiddie game than whether or not a company is making kiddie games.

I've heard of, but haven't played the Fire Emblem series, haven't heard of the Fatal Frame series, so can't really comment on those.

But yes, for whatever reason I think I would consider most of the games you've mentioned to be more kiddie games. That's not to say they're bad or anything, and I can't exactly say what to me makes a game more of a kiddie game. I think let's just say that I just don't feel that they are marketed towards adults.

It's kinda like with Pixar films. I feel that those are marketed towards kids, but they are movies that adults will enjoy and probably want to see again and again. They have something for all ages in one movie/product. What I feel towards Pixar is much the same as what I feel about Nintendo.

Hell, Ocarina of Time was rated E, and you'd have an extremely hard time convincing most sane people that it has no place being considered one of the greatest games ever made on the basis of it being kid friendly.
Just wanted to hit on this again to reiterate, just because I consider something a kiddie game, which, much like Zelda: TP, I consider Zelda: OoT to be kinda borderline kiddie, it does not mean that I think it is a bad game, or a poorly designed game. And I agree, OoT is one of the greatest games made and among my favorites, but I still don't feel it's as adult as, oh, I don't know, let's say Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. Those are the first two games that jump to mind when I try to think of what I'd call an adult game, that and maybe most of the FF games, and the Star Ocean line.

Of course now I'm noticing that I just named a bunch of fantasy adventure games, and the Nintendo games that I'm more inclined to think of as adult/borderline games are also fantasy adventures. So now I'm wondering if I just think fantasy adventure = adult or what.

                        Meh, I dunno.

It's probably the color palette that biases you. Anything that doesn't have muted colours = kiddie, of course.

PROTIP: Look at No More Heroes or Animals de la Muerte. Very colorful, very violent. Also go check out some classic games.

                            Re: The Wii60??

kiddie is not a term thrown around to describe a game as not fun or bad. It is a term used to descibed that has kids in mind.

Look at the grand theft auto series or man hunt, or the like. Not geared towards kids but they still play them. However Zelda, and Mario are directed to kids, yet adults play them, and all games I consider fun.

I am not saying that kiddie games are bad, I love mario kart, I love Smash Bro's, but these games are designed for a kids state of mind, easy controls not overly violent, and are usually marked teen down. I love the Zelda games they are my favorite Saga of all time, Which is why I own a game cube, a N64, DS, SNES, NES and have emulators on my computer for them as well.

However I enjoy the gory games, or the epic games, with great CG's I want my video game experience to be almost like jumping into a movie, and as it stands PS3 is the only system that is graphically up to what I want from my gaming. Does that mean I won't play a Wii hell no I love Wii sports, mario games and even some of the shooters are fun. But thats it, Wii is fun PS3 is epic. I wouldn't even let an xbox 360 into my house as a doorstop. I used to own one and was dissatisfied with it I traded it for a bag of cocaine and made $2000 and bought myself a PS3 and havent looked back.

Im sorry but crap tacular backwards compatibility sucks, a one game franchise (halo) sucks, pretty well everything else is on PS3 and im sorry but blu-ray high def just looks better. Regardless if this XBOX 360 Wii style software is super dooper, The PS3 already supports it, and the Wii already has some of my favorite classic series in mario and zelda and metroid. XBOX is out, the started out to fast, and just like in a 200 M sprint you can round the corner in first but if you can't keep up on the back straight, even with a gimick your not going to make it to the line.

Ill stick with my PS3, and maybe get a Wii this holiday, all this talk about Mario Kart, and Metroid is making me jones for it. But my perdiction XBOX 360 rots on the shelf, the controler and software might sell well but anyone who buys and xbox over a Wii for that reason needs to turn into a red ring of death themselves.

You know, I don't understand why people get so worked up over the Wii, either for or against. For that matter, I really don't understand why people hate on the 360 so much, or the PS3 (or obsess over them). Why does it have to be one way or the other? All the consoles have their merits...when I wanna play a fun, family game I go to the Wii. When I wanna shoot someone in the face and teabag their corpse, I break out the 360. It's a shame that no one console fills all these criteria when it comes to gaming (and no one system really has, in my opinion, since the SNES, or maybe the PS2), and when one does, I'll be the first to pick that up and stay exclusive. Until then, honestly, it's a moot point. If you want the whole experience, you're going to have to get all 3 consoles, or buy a decent computer.

Besides, as for the PS3, I know quite a few people that bought it 'cause it's a cheap Blu-Ray player...the own like 2 games and a shit ton of Blu-Ray movies. So really, did they buy it to game or what? Take away Blu-Ray capability and I don't think PS3's would have sold nearly as many consoles as they did, even at half the price.
I'm a slow motion accident, lost in coffee rings and fingerprints...
