I'd say that's a pretty scathing insult to the PSP anyway.

I love my PSP. I really hate the UMD as a movie format. Not surprised if Sony does as well, as it was a dumb idea.

And if anyone's curious, here's a screen comparison. The response rate is also lessened, so you won't see as much of the ghosting effect.

I'm not talking about it solely as a movie drive. I'm talking about it as a way to play all UMD media that you can play on a PSP. Including PSP games. Because again, I'm fine with my DS, and I simply would not buy the PSP as a portable system. There ARE PSP games I'm interested in, though, and a UMD equipped PS3 would be perfect for allowing me to play those on something I would enjoy far more, and at a presumably lowered price. And given PSP sales, I doubt I am alone. It would also be a good boost to the PS3's library.

I thought you people have always had a problem with the PS3's price, now you want them to add PSP hardware to it?

Considering how little of the PSP's hardware actually goes into playing games? Subtract the cost of the card readers, controllers, screen, battery, having to shrink things down to fit, and so on, and you've just taken out a considerable amount of money. Add the fact that the PS3 could probably emulate EVERYTHING if they wanted to, and JUST be a UMD drive? yes. Although as I mentioned, it would be best to sell it as an add-on.

Pai Pai, you feeling ok? You seem to be skimming posts far more than you usually do. With that sentence you ignored the part where I said Sony needs to stop making new hardware that appeals to people that already own their consoles, and the part where I said that a PSP unit should be an addon.

A couple of tidbits outta Leipzig, coming from SCEE CEO David Reeves:

-EA and DICE's Mirror's Edge will be a timed PS3 exclusive.

-Some PS2 games will soon become playable on any model PS3. Via firmware update, the first set of games will be all PS2 SingStar games. Sony hasn't yet confirmed any other games that will be made backwards compatible for the newer BC-less PS3 models, but Reeves says they're looking into making more PS2 games run on the PS3 via software emulation. It's good news that these PS3 models are now capable of full-software BC. Time will tell if Sony is looking to make it available for a wide array of PS2 games or not, and whether it will extend beyond first-party titles.

it's hueg liek xbox in europe apparently.

It's good that they've finally started to get around to it, although personally I'm working down my PS2 collection so I don't have to deal with it anymore. Might be good if I've already gotten rid of my PS2 by the time Persona 4 and it's expansion comes out, which seems pretty likely.

I also have a launch PS2, and the DVD drive has started to act up. I'd like to get rid of it while people are still willing to buy it :p

I never get rid of anything. I haven't decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet....
