  • What games are you looking forward to? (Post-E3 Thread)

Obviously, the past week (and a half, really.) has had quite a few video game announcements. Not as many as most of us had hoped for, probably, but still quite a few. There's been more info revealed on games we've been expecting, as well as ones we haven't.

Feel free to include games that weren't discussed or announced at E3.

Personally, my list of games to look forward to:

    DS:
GTA: Chinatown Wars (Will depend on execution, like everything else, but this also opens the door for more GTA on Nintendo products.)
    My Japanese Coach

    Wii:
Dead Rising (OH MY GOD DEAD RISING)
Wii Sports Resort (Hopefully more games that look interesting to me personally besides swordfighting, but still. 1:1 Swordfighting. SWORDFIGHTING!)

Also looking forward to Tales of Symphonia and Fatal Frame IV. There are a few other ones I have my eyes on (Conduit, SWTFU, Oneechanbara) but which still look sketchy enough that I'm not quite ready to get myself hyped for them.

I am looking forward to Resident Evil 5 the most out of the games I've seen so far. The AI looked extremely stupid in the video, but I'm hoping that they fix that. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed though.

I'm also looking forward to Fable 2. It looks pretty good so far.

The Wii Sports Resorts is probably worth purchasing as well, for the same reason Feba mentioned. The sword fighting!

My top games of E3 2008:

        1. Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, PSN, Summer 2008
        2. Resistance 2, PS3, November 2008
        3. inFamous, PS3, Spring 2009
        4. Pixeljunk Eden, PSN, July 2008
        5. LittleBigPlanet, PS3, October 2008
        6. Killzone 2, PS3, February 2009
        7. Fat Princess, PSN, TBA
        8. Final Fantasy XIII, PS3/360, TBA
        9. God of War III, PS3, 2009
        10. Gears of War 2, 360, November 2008

        Honorable Mentions:

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Flower, Fallout 3, RAGE, Prince of Persia, Megaman 9, SIREN: Blood Curse. Also, holy crap at Sony actually adding something to PSN in a timely manner.

        Disappointed by:

Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, Animal Crossing: City Folk, MAG, WiiMusic, the disappearance of WipEout HD, Super Stardust Portable, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Silent Hill: Homecoming. Nintendo in general.

IMO, PSN had the best lineup at E3. PS3, PSP and 360 all had great showings. Worst lineup for me is a tie between DS and Wii.

Mirror's Edge. I'm just happy there's finally going to be a first person game where you can see your feet.

Yeah. Although, first person platforming? I AM A LITTLE IFFY ABOUT THAT.

There are very few games that use first person as more than a way to aim your gun, though. Would be great to see more games like Half Life, that use first person to let you BE the main character; or at least see through their eyes.

Already playing the JP version of the game, its coming out in the states on August 26, and I plan on reserving it.

Guitar Hero World Tour coming out in October is the other game I'm looking forward to.

Infamous looked really good, but I don't own a PS3 so I probably won't be getting it.

The Metroid Prime games handled the first person platforming elements rather well, all people have to do is follow that up.

Also, the original Deus Ex fared at platforming decently for its time, it even had swimming which was totally cut out of DX2. In general I'd like to see more first person games that followed in the footsteps of Half-Life, Deus Ex and Metroid Prime. First-person doesn't always have to mean First Person Shooter.

Yeah, I agree there need to be more first person games that don't have a gun in the lower right. I admit I haven't played 2 and 3, but even Metroid Prime's platforming, minimal as it was, gave me problems. Looking at YOU, final dungeon place thingy. That's not to say there shouldn't be jumping or anything in FPS games; there should be plenty of ways to get around the environment. It just shouldn't be required to make a very difficult jump to continue.

I recall you saying you weren't very good at platformers in the first place, Feba?

your point? I'm not great at them, there are parts of SMG I can't get through, but there's a big difference between being bad at something, and a game being poorly designed.
