        I'm looking forward to:

LIPS, i just got into the whole Karaoke genre >.> (just picked up KR: American Idol, Encore for $6 )
You're in the movies (i think that's what its called)
        Flower, looks interesting.
        Fallout3
        Spore
Fable 2 looks a lil too complex but it might be enjoyable.

But the #1 thing i'm looking forward to is the new XBL experience. I'm glad i never got heavy into themes or gamer pics...

Re: What games are you looking forward to? (Post-E3 Thread)

Stuff I'm most looking forward to:

                LittleBigPlanet
Unbelievably cute, original, and will sell a gigaton of copies or gamers the world over FAIL.

                Mirror's Edge
Love the super-clean and bright look, and the first-person parkour is a nice twist. I'm so tired of games being 256 shades between brown and gray, and this is just the cure for that ailment.

                Resistance 2
Insomniac Games are probably the best developers period on the PS3, and this title will not disappoint.

                Spore
1 million creatures in the Sporopedia means this game is going to be huge.

                Fallout 3
Amazing, amazing, amazing. I'm an old school fan of the Fallout series, back before it was even called Fallout (anyone remember Wasteland?).

                Rock Band 2
Hello, 300+ songs in my setlist on launch day, can I have it? (I have 125 downloaded songs for Rock Band 1 + 80ish on the RB2 disc + 50ish importable from RB1 + there's still a bunch of weeks between now and launch for the PS3 version).

Incidentally, my pre-ordered (fully paid) list of games looks like this:

                PS3:
                Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
                Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
                Disgaea 3
                Soul Calibur IV
                Resistance 2
                LittleBigPlanet
                Fallout 3
                Bioshock
                Mirror's Edge

                PC:
                Spore

                Wii:
                Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

My Wii looks like it will continue to collect dust for the forseeable future. De Blob looks like it has promise, but I'm about ][ this far from permanently boycotting Nintendo after they've turned their backs on the hardcore gamers that have been their lifeblood for two decades. I love you Miyamoto, but the company you work for are a bunch of traitorous, money-grubbing fascists.

Should also note that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 make my excitement list but they weren't shown at E3 because of Vivendi's withdrawal.

What the hell are you talking about? They've confirmed they're working on Mario and Zelda, and even announced another Pikmin. They just gave us Mario Kart and Smash Bros. a couple months ago. There are plenty of great looking third party games that were talked up last week. How the hell does "not showing us anything at one conference" equate to betrayal?

I mean, hell, for all we know, they're doing it for OUR sake. Remember when Nintendo showed a GREAT looking, realistic, Zelda trailer? And then we got Wind Waker, and felt pissed? They could be trying to avoid just that sort of problem. That also gives them the benefit to work on games not only at their own pace, but to feel free to MAKE CHANGES. That, as WW showed despite the hatred, can lead to even better games.

Any game that can be turned spontaneously into PowerPoint with benefits wins my award for originality. How about you?

Hello, hardcore gamers like to play more than one game every four months.

I haven't bought a game for my Wii since Brawl, and there's literally nothing on the horizon that makes me sit up and say "wow, that's cool, I should buy that".

Nintendo's been doing a good job on their first party games in this generation - when they actually release them, but with the laughable state of their 3rd party support, they need to step in and fill in the gaps, and it's just not happening.

I mean, hell, for all we know, they're doing it for OUR sake. Remember when Nintendo showed a GREAT looking, realistic, Zelda trailer? And then we got Wind Waker, and felt pissed? So you're defending them because... why? They're not releasing much worthwhile in the rest of 2008 for the hardcore gamer (and despite what Reggie Fils-Aime would like to believe, Animal Crossing barely qualifies). Aside from that, what's left? The Conduit?

I'm not saying they should release a half-assed Mario game just to fill the void, but that doesn't in any way excuse the absolutely BARREN upcoming release slate for the Wii.

It's clear that Nintendo would rather "focus their energies" on selling us more overpriced widgets to tack onto their Wiimote than actually giving us worthwhile games to play. If you really believe they're just holding back on their "core" titles because they want them to be perfect, why are they spending time and energy on peripheral-based garbage like Link's Crossbow Training, Wii Fit, and Wii Sports Resort?

Are you talking about their E3 thing? Yes, that was somewhat creative-- but that doesn't make the game itself creative. I see no reason that couldn't have been done years ago with Counterstrike.

Creativity comes by making the GAME different, not by allowing users to generate their own content. Yes, user generated content is nice, but it's not what makes a GAME creative. Blast Works, for example, has a GREAT user generated content system; but it also has a unique gameplay aspect (the katamari-like ship collection). It was drawn from a freeware game, but considering people consider Portal original, I would still say it counts. There are unfortunately not nearly enough original games out there, though, on any platform.

The only difference is public perception and marketing. Nintendo is mainly marketing to casual users, because there's a shitload of money to be made in that market. That doesn't mean they aren't still working for hardcore gamers.

It's impossible to see what's truly on the horizon when you aren't looking.

Because they obviously are still working, despite what you would have people think. And because they're putting out plenty of quality first person titles, and it's more than reasonable to expect their development teams to take a bit of time to get something new that doesn't suck.

Perhaps not first party software. Though, TGS is still coming up, and it wouldn't be unheard of for Nintendo to announce something there. And yes, Reggie's thinking that AC:CF is going to make hardcore gamers happy is ridiculous, especially considering they removed the NES games so as not to hurt the VC.

Looking at the release dates of previous Fatal Frame games, Fatal Frame IV could easily end up on NA Wiis by the holidays, and yes, that's a Nintendo published game. I'm not sure if they've officially announced it for NA release yet, but they'd be idiots not to. It also wouldn't have made much sense for them to announce it at E3-- they were clearly going for the mass market there (they even said themselves), and horror games aren't the biggest thing with soccer moms. Hell, look at the violent titles there, GTACW they said practically NOTHING about, and COD's trailer I don't think had any actual combat (as in, shooting at other people) in it.

And yes, there is plenty upcoming for Wii. The Conduit, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, Fatal Frame IV (Again, not official, but almost certainly), Tales of Symphonia, SWTFU (Not exclusive, but with exclusive Wii features. Whether this is preferable or not is dependent mainly on how well the motion controls are done, though.), Mad World (I loathe promoting Sega in the light of the announcement that they aren't working on Shenmue III, but still), and so on. There's also one or two titles that I'm personally interested in, but which look shaky enough that I'm not going to use them as examples, although it's hard to say what qualifies as a "good" game before it's released anyway. I also have a list of a few Wii games that are already out that I want, in addition to the 15 or so I already have, and a half dozen that I'm interested in although not quite sure about buying.

If you honestly haven't bought a Wii game since SSBB, and there's nothing you're interested in, you simply aren't looking. There's plenty out there. I've made lists of games I'd buy for PS3 if I got one, and that comes up shorter than the list of Wii games I'm interested in. It's not even that I particularly like the Wii; the Wiimote can be nice when done well, and it's cheap, but that's all it has from a console/hardware perspective. It's just that the whole "Wii has no games" thing is a myth, and I'm really, really sick of it.

Re: What games are you looking forward to? (Post-E3 Thread)

Mirror's Edge deserves honorific mention because it has the potential of being as good as a Portal-ish game with an acrobatic action packed twist (or Half Life + Portal before the actual thing?)

And there's no way the enemies in Resident Evil 5 will be that stupid, the RE4 enemies were way "smarter", so the final product certainly wont be like that. Also, looking at the Trailer the graphics are going to own.

                        Fallout 3 and Resistence 2 , that's all I can say.

And of course God of War III.

                        Edit > Also, LBP has the potential of being massive. o_O If only the PSN accepted cards from MX already. ; ;

User generated content is taken as a given in PC gaming circles, but it's pretty new to consoles. Games like UT3 and Blast Works have been pushing the envelope there, but LBP is the first time we've really seen something akin to Garry's Mod on a console. Just a big sandbox, a bunch of tools, and an interface that looks approachable, easy, and fun, around which they've built a bunch of single player content and given users the keys to the castle to create and share just about anything their twisted minds can dream up.

Which Nintendo has more than provided. Not even including third party titles. And hell, it's not like the other companies are doing much better. \
No, the difference ISN'T just marketing. There are a BUNCH of PS360 games that have been released in the last year that never made it onto the Wii, and a bunch more multiplatform titles that got "dumbed down" on the Wii. And the upcoming release slate is full of Wii-EXCLUDED titles.

Grand Theft Auto IV? Devil May Cry 4? Bioshock? Mirror's Edge? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare? Soul Calibur IV? Prince of Persia? Dead Space? Resident Evil 5? Fallout 3?

And for every high profile title PS360 title I can name, there's even more lesser titles as well (Clive Barker's Jericho, TimeShift, Dark Sector, Overlord/Raising Hell, etc.)

THIS is what Nintendo has to make up for, and again, while their first party stuff is generally great - when it shows up - it's not enough to offset the missing presence of the biggest 3rd party releases. Especially not when Microsoft is spending money like water to get exclusives (Gears of War 2, Mass Effect, etc.) and Sony's got almost as many internal development studios than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.

It's impossible to see what's truly on the horizon when you aren't looking.
What's coming up that's interesting? De Blob, Mushroom Men, Deadly Creatures? Titles with potential but no guarantee and no pedigree?

Vaporware like Sadness or Disaster: Day of Crisis?

Madworld looks like it has some promise, but it looks so ultra-violent that I suspect it's going to get Manhunt 2'd (i.e. banned in half the countries of the civilized world and then nerfed).

The Conduit? That game wouldn't even register as halfway interesting on any other platform (360, PS3, or PC) - it's just the lack of shooters in general on the Wii that make it stand out at all.

Fatal Frame IV and Tales of Symphonia 2 are about the only solid contenders on the list, and neither one has been officially announced anywhere except Japan. Given Nintendo's I-hate-Europe stance, and their "we'll release it in the US whenever we get around to it" policy, I'm not holding my breath on either of these titles arriving until there's a release date set.

As things stand today, my pre-order balance of power is 9 PS3 games, 1 PC game, and 0 Wii games, and it's not because I'm not looking for games on the Wii - they're JUST NOT THERE. I'd LOVE to be able to order some games for my Wii. I really would. But there's nothing with even a tentative release date that I can put money down on and say "Yeah I want that".

                                Something more about LBP.

Remember what they said about attaching sounds to objects? How long till music levels like those Mario videos will emerge from Japan? Also remakes of popular games (like Rockman or Castlevania using those tools, and the list goes on and on.

I'm personally interested in creating a level from the original NES Batman game from SunSoft.
