  • For those that have played both FFTs

I'm leaning toward getting a PSP, probably soon after I get a new DS. Mostly because they both have the best mix of RPGs out there right now and certainly more ot offer in that genre that consoles righ tnow.

I'm also looking and restoring parts of my RPG collection. Basically this is just stuff I foolishly sold.

I happened upon a original copy of Final Fantasy Tactics the other day in a used bookstore of all places. Not the Greatest Hits version, either, the original print.

So my question is for those that have played the PSP version, how much more does it offer than the original? If it has quite a bit more, I'll probably just hold off for that version when I have a PSP. I hear the PSP version has some slowdown, but that doesn't bother me so much as it does other people. Also, I feel more comfortable playing SRPGs on handhelds to start with.

I guess what I'm really asking is if there are more levels and battles than the original. I know about Balthier and Luso being extra characters, as well as the Dark and Holy Knight classes being playable instead of just NPC jobs.

If the PSP version is indeed better, I think I'll just put the cash towards restoring some other parts of my library.

The PSP version has an updated script and short CG sequences with voice acting. I never noticed any slow-down or anything. It's definately better than the original.

More extra characters? Sheesh, you have to eat half your original team just to accommodate the dozen you already get in the original FFT (and that's without much space left for monster breeding).

According to GameFAQs, the maximum number of characters is increased in FFT:WotL, which seems to me like enough reason all on its own, even without the two new playable jobs, several new storyline missions and extra bonus characters. Well, if I had a PSP, anyway.

I haven't played it yet but I'm planning to. The updated script is enough for me. I mean, seriously, Blaze Gun shooting Ice.

Totally worth the updated version. The changes make it worth having even if your crazy like me and own all the versions of the games in the series. These remakes they are doing on the PSP are really sweet from the first the came out FFI to tactics.

It's the best version by far, with the only crappy part being the slowdown during spell and ability animations, and the fact that SE fucking lied about adding a 5th chapter.

The extra battles and events really add to the story, imo. I really enjoyed that. So basically you have a great game with even more good stuff put in....how can you lose? As for the slowdown, yes it's noticable. But if you can get over that, its small potatoes. The thing that annoyed me most was the audio during the slowdowns. The animation would still be going but the audio would have played out already. But again, small potatoes.

I remember playing the original and it promptly whomped me. I was really annoyed because at this point in my life, I could not dedicate 36 straight hours to a game like I used to. I always thought buying the little screen for the PS so I could basically make it portable. LOL Then out comes FFT on PSP and it was like God answering my call. Finally. Hey at least it was something... Hey FFT:WotL would make me buy a PSP if I didn't already have one and be very satisfied that I did. So I could beat it....finally.....

If the slow down doesn't bother you then go for the PSP version. The newer versions of it actually reduced the slow down significantly, the original release was really really REALLY bad. Like, you use a spell, and 2 seconds after the sound effect ends the spell animation would just be starting.

If all else fails, you can just run the original PSX version on your PSP from the memory stick.

The fixed translation alone is worth it.
