  • Bargain games.

I had a nice long fucking post here and then fucking firefox fucking crashed because it's an unreliable piece of shit. Short version:

    1- Must be under $30
2- Must have a ton of gameplay time and/or replay value (at least one hour for every dollar)
3- No subscription fees. MMOs are a great bargain in terms of gameplay time, but $150+ a year is not bargain.
4- List the lowest price you know and the console it's on.
5- No used games. Prices and conditions on those are just too unreliable.
6- it must be freaking good and fun. There's no point playing a $5 game for 90 hours if it sucks ass.

PS2, sorted from what I consider most to least value, although even the least is pretty damn good:

Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection - $30. MGS1, 2, and 3 with only a few small presentation problems. You'll need a PSX memory card if you don't already have one, but you should be able to find one used for a few bucks. Excellent value if you've never tried the series before.

Persona 3 FES: $30. I've not played it personally, but I've heard nothing but good things about it, it's on my 'must buy' list, and I've heard it can go up to over 100 hours of gameplay time, plus insane replay value.

    Katamari Damacy: $10. Nanaaaaaanananananananananananananabuythisgame. Seriously.

GTA: San Andreas - $15. It's a giant GTA game. What more needs to be said?

FFXII: $20. It will probably take you 25 hours just to get through the main storyline as quickly as you can; exploring more and doing things like hunts will probably take out 50 or more.

DMC1,2,3: $30. Another box set, and another game I have not personally played, although I am looking at it. As much praise and attention as it has gotten, though, I doubt it can be too bad.

    Wii:

Blast Works: $10. Blast Works: Build, Trade & Destroy - Nintendo Wii Fuck all of you for letting it get this low.

RE4Wii: $30. This is just an insane value. The main game alone is likely to take over 20 hours your first time through, and then there are three or four BONUS games (Assignment Ada, Separate Ways, The Mercenaries, and I think one more) which will take you quite awhile, AND insane replay value on the main game (thanks to things like the Chicago Typewriter). The only reason I can think of for not picking this up is hating video games, or being afraid of horror games.

Zack and Wiki: $20. A very unique puzzle solving Wii Game, similar to old point-and-click Adventure games, but broken down into easier to manage puzzle levels.

Wii Play: $50; BUT it includes a Wii Remote which would cost $40 anyway, so it's really only $10 when you consider that almost everyone is going to need a second controller at some point (hell, even just to go Akimbo in shooting games). In my opinion, this should be the second thing any Wii owner buys, after the console itself. Besides the games being pretty fun in their own right (you'll probably play it closer to two or three hours than ten, but multiplayer will add some), it also teaches you how to use the Wii Remote-- it gets you used to pointing, twisting, pulling, leaning, pushing, and so on, and uses fun little games to do it.

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition -- $20. Don't own it personally, but also on my list, and supposedly offers dozens of hours of entertainment and is one of the better Wiimakes out there.

So what bargain games out there do you have, or are you looking for?

GTA IV... thats like £40... which is... $80 right? There must be 80 hours of gameplay in GTA IV, especially with the squeezing out of the achievements on 360. I guess it's probably like $60 as you guys get stuff a bit cheaper due to cost of living being less, rising inflation rates in the UK right now, etc, etc.

Messia, Feba sad San Andreas, which was on the PS2, not GTA4.

I know... but feba was also asking for our suggestions of which games are bargain games... and I'm thick... only just noticed the must be under $30 bit...

I would have to say that Blue Dragon is a bargain of a game. It is a 3 disc xbox 360 RPG. It is under £30 here, but the costs of things here is a bit more, so I see it as a bargain. It has massive amounts of play time. Lost Odyssey too. Viva Pinata and Eternal Sonata are on my to get list.

I would like to point out a game Feba recommended and say that it is MORE than worth the $30. Persona 3 FES....an absolute stand out RPG. Take note that you might see the singular Persona 3 in the store but if it doesn't say FES do not get it. FES is the game Persona 3 with even more story and stuff to kill! P3 FES is in my top five games for this year so far.

I was gonna mention Persona 3 FES as well. I can't say enough good things about it save for that its probably one of the best RPGs I've played. Really good stuff, great battle system and tons of value.

              Re: Bargain games.

I honestly have never heard of the Persona story line, but after reading the comments here I decided to pull up a few reviews on the game and to my surprise I found 1 bad review for every 18 or 19 good reviews. One of the bad reviews is a rant from some crazed mom , it would seem, that absolutely bashed the game because of the fact that when you "summon" a persona the character places a "gun-like" object to his or her head and pulls the trigger. This was said to cause the person to suffer mental stress inorder to produce said persona. (I haven't played the game yet so I'm going off of reviews and the games specs.) The person said it was going to influence children that get their hands on the game to commit suicide. Meh, I don't really have a stand on that, but what I do want to do is say thank you to TGM and you others for the reference. I called the wife from work today and had her run to Gamestop to snag a copy for me to play when I get home ^^ Hope the game is shweet, indeed.

                Re: Bargain games.

Yeah, you can look it up on Youtube; it's a little creepy, but it's not like it's promoting suicide.

But it's M rated anyway, so that's a rather shitty mom if she just let her kids play it without at least trying it herself first.

                    Re: Bargain games.

Gah... now I'm thinking if I should have picked it up while I was at Gamestop. Was looking at the back of the cover, shrugged, and put it back.

Is it REALLY that good? I like RPGs but some are just dull... What's it like compare to, say, Star Ocean 3?

Also, for PS2, add Odin Sphere to the list. In some places, new copies are $20 by default, but I was lucky from where I live. You can read why I like it in Feba's "What game will you be playing this week?" if you're curious. I'm too lazy to paste it.

                        Re: Bargain games.

GTA: The Trilogy. 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, all in one box. I'd almost not bother picking up San Andreas alone with this out there. While San Andreas is half the price, and hueg, if you look at it as getting Vice City for $10 and 3 for $5, it's a great deal. Or $10 each. Whatever floats your boat. It's an awesome deal if you haven't already played GTA. Although I doubt you haven't.

Legend of Dragoon for the PS1 - 3 discs of one of the most amazing stories I have ever played. Battles use an interesting combo system and some of the spells are great. The cutscenes are amazing! Great fun. I've replayed it 3 times and it never gets old. Price ranges from only $2 to $12 on Amazon.com!

Unfortunately, Feba's restrictions were quite strict. I also enjoyed LoD immensely and always recommend it to people not afraid of less than stellar graphics.

Amazon had ones listed as new at $2. Whether it's true or not is up to the seller, but if it's incorrect you should have no problems returning it.
