From the game play footage, looks like this time they're keeping everyone's special abilities as well. Abilities that were all lost when FF4 first translated into english on sNES. Tellah's recall is just one of them. I never understand why those abilities were removed to begin with.

Cecil's new darkness is awesome trust me. It's very useful against bosses. The original AoE darkness really pale compare to this.

thats the thing I dont want something "stronger" -.- I liked the AOE attack for leveling earlier and faster

From what I know of the changes, they're doing this to FFIV:
          • Cecil is getting more White Magic to use when he becomes a PLD (Yeah, yeah, I'm not using spoiler tags. Too bad. You should have played it by now, nubs.) Raise, Protect and extra Cure tiers, I think.
          • Cecil in DRK mode has had Darkness changed from HP sacrificed to AoE damage to HP sacrificed for AoE Party attack buff.
          • Edward will actually learn songs, somewhat more akin to what we see in FFXI's BRD, instead of playing one useless song from one instrument most of the game. Here's hoping he gets Apollo's Harp again, though, that thing rocked the undead.
          • Rosa will only need not need to buy a new batch of arrows all the time, you just buy the one Holy Arrow and she can use it indefinately, never running out.
          • Palom's Cry ability will now actually be useful, it will have a Defense Down effect on enemies.
          • Rydia will be able to summon Whyt, a creature that can be customized through a series of mini-games.

They also seem to have other skills they can learn that trancend job classes, what system they're using I don't recall, but its probably similar to the AP systems of games predating FFX.

Cid, Kain, Yin and Tellah seem to remain unchanged, but then, they didn't really have any problems to fix.

            Yang?

Tellah got a huge boost in the JP version. He got the highest damage when using equipted rods/staves. He used to be useless back in SNES, he's actually very useful now.

Rosa is just plain cheating. She gets Prey ability that heals HP/MP of all party members, for free. It fails sometimes but 70% it works.

And the new system, along the course of the game you'll get items that teach abilities to any given characters. :D Palom Porom's double magic for example. You can have different characters learn those and cast it for wide variety of effects. Cecil+Rosa for example will have double magic of their own. Originally you can tell just 1 character to start double cast. In the new one, you need to order both characters in their own turn.

Why? IV, V and VI Advance kicked ass. What could they do with remaking them *again* that would be an improvement on the last round of remakes?

Seriously, if they're going to remake something else, they should at least remake something they haven't already remade. Seiken Densetsu 3 perhaps?

THANK GOD. Mind you, he was already insanely broken anyway especially with Excalibur and the Adamant Armor. The rest of those changes are pretty nice (seems like they're dumbing down the difficult though )

Also, I read in an interview on IGN that the original SNES cart was only half as long as they wanted it to be, and that this will be the full version. If that's true this is going to be a crazy long (and good) game.

                  FTFY.

Malacite, are you sure they're talking 'half as long' or 'half as much content'? Because there's a very large difference. It's a heckuva lot easier to double a game's time by adding in a ton of side quests than it is by making an epic story and adding new areas and such.

Yin. Yang. Whatever his name was, I didn't use him as much as Edge, Cid or Kain.

I'm positive in the interview (I think it was with Nomura) that it was said large chunks (roughly half) of the story was cut out from the SNES version due to limitations. I don't have time to dig it up right now, as I gotta leave for work but I'll see if I can find it later.
