        I think he may mean bullet-hell games in that line in general.

            He's not being literal, YM.

            Anyway, I'm not going to say that didn't take skill, because it did, but it was a matter of memorization far more than anything else. It's not a matter of what we think of as gaming, where you see a situation and react to it. It's more like speedruns-- you already know very well exactly how the game goes, and you're going to keep repeating it over and over again until you perfect it, as much as possible.

            Personally, I prefer my shmups to be more random (see http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/vid...e-destroy.html .), so it's a matter of actually having to dodge things, and not "ok, if I go here, I'll live" five million times until you do. Not that Kenta Cho games don't have that too, but things like targeted shots are thrown in much more often.

              Re: Insane Bullet Hell gameplay

              Mushishihimesama is undoubtedly the most difficult of the bullet hell shmups.

              While impressive, I'm not really sure that it's any harder as a shmup than, say, R-Type, which is almost all targetted attacks rather than just efforts to cover the screen.

                That's messed up.

                I haven't played R-Type since I was just a kid so I can't comment on that.

                Also, this game is being a bitch to track down D:

                  [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-II1BY8Z22A]YouTube - rRootage 0A test[/ame]

                  Here's an example of what I'm talking about. This is me playing 0A (highest stage in rrootage). Twice (watch for the game over screen; the menu is in there but blinkandyou'llmissit.)

                  Obviously, I'm not that good at it, but you can see how the patterns aren't predictable; it doesn't even use the same attacks every time you start the stage.

                  oh, and the game has sound; my recording software does not.
