That's unfortunately the problem with the entire game. It builds on the hype so much by trying so hard to be the next Ocarina of Time and referring to it in so many ways, but fails to deliver on that same sense of wonder and freedom that the earlier game brought us so long ago. I think Wind Waker does a much better job of paying homage to the earlier games while still being its own unique game in the series. For a Zelda game Twilight Princess was fairly unoriginal, terribly linear and despite the size of the world it felt empty as a result of the very limited selection of minigames and sidequests.

In the end though, it's merely poor by Zelda standards and great by others in my opinion. That does however bring with it lofty expectations and despite the fact that it's clearly not a bad game by any means, I was terribly disappointed with it after I unfortunately let the hype build up for so many years. Aonuma did such great work with with Majora's Mask that I was really expecting the best Zelda of all time from him.

My favorite is still to this date Link to the Past. TP did have some pretty awesome boss fights at least (The Dragon Fight was epic! Spider Link, Spider Link, does whataver a Spider Link can! ^^) Not to mention the best final fight against Ganon to date.

On a side note, I'm playing through Okami now, since I finally managed to snag a copy.

This is quite possibly the best clone of a popular game ever. Sure, there have been clones for nearly every popular FPS, WoW/Lineage, GTA; but this does it so well that it's practically an homage to Zelda. It's unique in very very good (read: non-gimmicky) ways, while still having the same basic formula, and doing it very well.

I have to disagree with TP being bad-- I'll admit, I'm not a huge Zelda fan, I've only played about halfway through WW (the triforce piece hunt was just stupid, to me, a giant break in the fun of the rest of the game), LTTP, and OOT. Still, it wasn't significantly worse than OOT, imo. I will agree on it being a bit too linear, but the dungeons were really not that bad-- I can only think of a few things that I thought of as being downright retarded, which is fewer than OOT. They were all fun.

Keep in mind that OOT was huge in it's time. It would be hard to equal the impression it left without doing something incredibly huge and new. It would be impossible to make a 'new' OOT that didn't come off as being worse than the original because one of OOT's strengths was how early it was in 3D gaming, and how it just did a kickass job at it. That's not something that's easy to top, both in people's memories, and in the practice of pioneering a new medium (VR, perhaps)

Do you mean when it was released a couple weeks ago, or on the PS2? PS2 version didn't interest me much because the brush technique looked like it would be far better suited to Wii, and because I was trying to not buy so many games for my old consoles so I could get new ones. Wii version, I just didn't have enough money at launch.
