It's the classic move that people always overlook;

Nintendo is always cheapest at the start. Then they nail you with all the extras and add-ons and before you know it you're wondering WTF happened to all your money. Oh but you can't call them on it, 'cause that's blasphemy apparently...

I disagree; Nintendo has proven themselves to generally be the cheapest option for the last 3 generations at least.

My point was that it was ridiculous to take my comments and spin them into some sort of lofty criticism that someone who owns a PS3 can't complain about prices.

99% of downloadable content is evil. Not just Nintendo's, not just Sony or Microsoft's. I personally think that WiiWare software is too expensive at the moment. I think a lot of PSN and XBLA games are too expensive. I own a lot of PSN games; some I've been satisfied with considering price and a couple of which not so much. I even own quite a few VC games, despite the fact that a NES game costs as much as a PlayStation game. Perhaps I'm just contributing to the problem but I do think there are a lot of DLC games out there that are horribly overpriced. In my opinion, FFCC: My Life as a King is one of the worst cases we've seen in a while.

And I agree with you Pai. It doesn't matter what the platform is, there's no excuse for some of the prices on these online stores. 1500 Points for 1 game?! That's like $20 at least... wtf.. (it's about $25 for 2000 points so...)

Yeah, but Microsoft took the crown when they started charging $99 for a wireless network adapter or $179 for a 120GB hard drive.

Uh, what? Last I checked, the powerglove wasn't required for anything. Not to mention it's pretty stupid to judge a company based on it's actions two decades ago.

Seriously, I've had every Nintendo platform since the N64 except the original DS, and they are not that bad. I have never once felt like they were selling 'additional crap' at a really high price.

Hell, look at the Wii-- it's additional accessories are included with games (The Zapper and Wheel which are totally not needed for anything, and the Balance board which isn't needed for much, and nothing major)

If you buy a Wii, Wii Play, Two Controllers, and Three Nunchuks, you have four controllers with nunchuks, the console, Wii Sports, and Wii play. This, total, costs $440~.

If you go for the base 360 unit (Arcade), and get three wireless controllers, you're up to $430. This doesn't include the wireless adapter, which is another $100, which most people keeping their console in their living room are going to require. It also doesn't offer backwards compatibility (apparently, this could be wrong) without buying a hard drive, which as Pai Pai pointed out is a significant expense.

The PS3 and three controllers comes out around $565.


The Wii, even after buying it's controllers and the most widely used (read; only) addon, is the cheapest. Hell, given the rest of that money ($530 on 360, $565 on PS3), you could even toss in classic controllers, or a few hefty SD cards.

Yeah, I felt like I had been kicked in the nuts when I was told I should consider buying a computer to play a few PC games like WoW and even FFXI.

Went online, found some good specs that would play the games I wanted to smoothly and would utilize my FiOS network to it's fullest...

$2200. Yeah...about that... Don't see me dropping that kind of money on a comp lol... Granted this was Alien Ware, but still. That is a lot of money. Opened my eyes to the joys of my consoles that's for sure.

Alienware will rape your wallet, you could get a PC build to play FFXI and WoW decently, for 900-100 mabye alittle more depending on the monitor you want.

Yeah, I played around on NewEgg the other day and came out with a system that would cost $1400 or so, and a few things in there were more high end then I really needed. A solid pc can come in under $1000 pretty easily.

Yes my son just built a very nice computer for $1000. He did use some old parts from his other computer such as extra hd, floppy, case, etc but all the major parts were just under $1000. I purchased a laptop from Alienware and I absolutely love it to pieces BUT........I do not like the price (or the friggin weight ><). I'm a gadget geek so I got caught up in the "OMGZ an uber laptop!" and bought the most expenisve one at the time. Be careful, don't fall for that. Know what your budget is, know what you are going to use the computer for, and buy accordingly.

Um, that's more a matter of you not really having any idea how to equip a PC properly. No offense, but if your main goals are playing FFXI and WoW, there's really no reason to break 600-700$.
