    Spore, Mass Effect PC to Require Online Validation Every Ten Days to Function - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

    So what happens when they close down the validation servers? Something tells me that EA doesn't know what the word "longevity" means.

    I think that's exessive. MMO's have no problem at all with CD keys and registratoin codes.

      Stupidest fucking idea ever.

      Bioware (I refuse to refer to them by their Overlord EA), don't start being tools, kk? When those servers go belly up in a few years and none of your PC player base can play Mass Effect, they will be sad. And angry. And that will hurt your revenues for your beloved Dragon Age, and this 'we swear it's not a MMO' project you're running with LucasArts. (Which better fucking be KotOR-Galaxies :D)

      xoxo Bioware. Be smart!

          Years? Try months. EA shuts down game servers after they collect the first quarter revenue.

            Re: Mass Effect and Spore go Securom

            EA's already backed down. These new SecuROM features won't be implemented in these games but it will still require the same validation style as Bioshock. You'll get a limited number of chances to validate your installation; after that you'll have to contact EA for further permission.

            Either way, time to laugh as more people who would have gladly spent money on these games end up pirating them instead as a result of this draconian DRM. It's ridiculous that you can spend $50-60 on a game and still not actually own it.

              There's probably plenty of people who are going to start pirating other EA titles because they don't want to give money to this sort of bullshit as well.

                Er, people will pirate stuff no matter what.
                Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
                yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
                Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
                leaving no trace in the water.

                  Yeah, but the fact that SecuROM actually makes people pirate games more is both depressing and hilarious.

                    yes, but this is encouraging it.

                    It's kinda like prohibition. Making the legal option really crappy (no booze) made the illegal option really desirable, possibly moreso than simply having it legal would've.
