  • PS3 question

What exactly does the memory do?

Other than that is there any difference, beside price, from the 40GB and the other models?

    Thank you

      Re: PS3 question

You mean like...the hard drive? The memory designation is just the hard drive size. 40GB and 80GB units. The 20GB and 60GB units are long discontinued.

There are other differences between the two models though. The 40GB unit lacks the multimedia memory card readers that the 80GB features, as well as the PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility. You can replace the hard drive featured in either model for a larger size.

        Thank you
The 40GB does not refer to the memory the PS3 has. It refers to the hard drive space that is available. Some Blu-Ray games use of hard drive space before it is able to be played like like Devil May Cry that uses 5GB of hard drive space. There is also downloadable content like games, themes, movie trailer, game trailers, etc. that needs a few MB of hard drive space before they can be viewed/played.

        40GB has:
        2 USB 2.0 ports
        No Flash Card readers
        No SACD support
        No PS2 compatibility

        60GB has:
        4 USB 2.0 ports
Flash Card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash Type I/Type II, Microdrive, Memory Stick/PRO/Duo)
        SACD support
        PS2 compatibility

        80GB has:
        4 USB 2.0 ports
Flash Card readers SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash Type I/Type II, Microdrive, Memory Stick/PRO/Duo)
        SACD support
        PS2 compatibility
