  • Best 'Game Breaker' tricks?

We've all seen them-- that one trick that makes the game easier, quicker, or just hilarious. What are your favorites?

just two rules: By it's nature, this thread will consist mostly of sequence breaking. There will be spoilers. No complaints. Also; it has to be possible by playing the game on the original hardware without modifications. this includes things like removing the disk.

There are a few more I can think of, but youtube is giving me problems right now, so I'll get back to it later.

That's really cool! I wonder if the game scenario won't run into troubles later?

Well, I can only vaguely remember more things like this with other games... Perhaps I can post them later. I'm looking forward to the replies in this thread.

I think ... in Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) although not required, I like how the only way to obtain the Mana Sword, pre-last boss was to "glitch" the game to think you're at the first boss in order to get the strongest sword in the game. But the other thing is, the sword does not change it's icon/name when you cast the magic at the last boss sequence, but however it shows as you having the "Mana Sword" (via a text bar notification).

Makes me wonder why they built that sword in but there is no absolute way to obtain it without glitching.

FF7, when you first get to Junon. Go to the tunnel that leads to the underwater tunnel/reactor, there's an alarm you can flick there. Upon flicking it, you can get into battles with enemies from Disk 2.

you said it's used on the last boss, right? They have to make it usable somehow. If it's not, a lot of times there are items included for testing purposes, or that are fragments that are left incomplete (FFXI and FFVII are great examples of this, even a quick look at FFXI's .dats and FF7's "revive aeris lawl" crap would show how that goes)

It's sort of used, but it just feels like you've been buffed up to do critical damage per hit is that magic's effect. I don't think (or remember) the sword even changes colour. The spell is only available at the boss, and there's a similar spell (but with much shorter duration) that has exactly the same effect.

But yeh I guess they built it into the game and just made it not available like all the other games. The story of the game is about that sword anyway ...

In Final Fantasy 9, it's possible to gain many levels very quickly. After getting to disc 2 and playing as Garnet, you can synth Coral Rings in the synth shops. After purchasing a few, stick them in your inventory and finish her section of the game, then head to Gizamaluke's grotto with Zidane. The rope in the moogle's house leads to a plateau where Grand Dragons spawn, whose main attacks happen to be thunder based. Equip Coral rings, and you negate most of their attacks. If you get lucky, you'll kill one and shoot up a bunch of levels. Repeat the process until the desired level is reached and then proceed to annihilate the entire game with even less effort than before.

Also, when playing Seiken Densetsu 3, use Kevin as your main character. This immediately breaks the game as Kevin flies into ownage mode after the first 3 minutes of play.

I'm also a huge fan of the butt/dong grab move when playing two player mode on Jurassic Park 2 for the SNES. My friend and I just walk around pressing the X button instead of actually playing the game.

Hmmm, well, basically just the jump button in far too many games than I can remember.

You'd be amazed at the things you can do with a few well placed jumps, get over a wall and gain access to areas you shouldn't be able to, or rain easy death from above on your enemies.

Another one is jumping to what should be your death down a hill/mountain, but if you do it right, you can kinda ski down the slope and not die at the bottom.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

They streamlined that in Tribes: Vengeance by making the space bar activate skiis in your boots for sliding across/down/up surfaces, and integrating a jump into your jetpack activation.

Chrono Trigger. Take the right teleporter at the Millenial Fair.

Also, this glitch in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon to skip ahead to fighting Dracula. [ame=http://youtube.com/watch?v=8l7rgoxk5ZM]YouTube - Dracula early battle[/ame]

EDIT: Oh yeah, and of course, Bomb Jumps in Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion?/Metroid - Zero Mission. Getting to inaccessible heights much earlier than you should through sheer force of timing and stubbornness =

I assume it has to do with sequence breaking and not triggering the scripted events leading to the final battle?

One of my favorites was in GTA: Vice City

There's a way to jump the fence at the docks early on and access the entire west island only a couple missions into the game. Once you do that, you can get all but 10 or so of the Hidden Packages and have a nice cache of unlimited weaponry to start out the game.

                          FFTA. Steal: Ability right after the 3rd mission? {Yes, Please}

I don't play it that often anymore, but when I do pick it up, it gives me oodles of fun. Stealing Abilities, I mean. Oh: and, of course, you get to Steal "Steal: Weapon" in a relatively early mission ("Foul Thief," it was called, I think). Therein lies most of the broken.

Of course, I'm starting to run out of Abilities to Steal, both from Moogles AND Humans (and those with common jobs between the two).

It's been a while, but aren't there really plenty of similiar bugs in the GTA series? I think I remember jumping the bridge in GTA: Liberty City with a car.

Hmm, It might have been some sort of flying cheat. Do games with as much cheats as GTA actually count for this topic?

there are a ton of cheats in the series, but this was a definite glitch.

there are a lot of other little glitches like that throughout the series but that one had the most impact on the game
