      Re: FF7 Remake: Should SE Rewrite it?

      To clarify, when you leave the mansion and the army tries to drag Cloud away Zack comments "I shouldn't be having this much trouble with these guys." a clear indication that the Jenova cells are messing with him (as indicated by the test results)

      I'd also like to go on record saying I much prefer Zack as a main character over Cloud but it just didn't work out that way ; ;

      And FF12's ending sucked ass Feba. Honestly it was a pretty major let down (to me at least) but I will say that the main villain certainly was the most believable thus far. It's a shame he became the very thing he sought out to destroy though.

        Not really. It didn't have any major twists, but that doesn't make it bad.

        If you want to complain about FFXII's plot, complain about everything from the end of Draklor Labs to the assault on the bahamut, because that made no goddamn sense.

          Nice @ assuming I pirate j/k

          I was thinking about getting the International Version, so I'm kinda holding off, but yes, FFXII is really great, we can agree there.

            Too true. I just found that the ending was rather anti-climactic. It seemed like it was building up to something epic then it's just suddenly all over and everything is normal again. Like what the hell? Never mind that I beat the boss on autopilot...

            I wasn't even all that decked out, nor did I have the "best' gambits. I just Basche wail on him with a greatsword while Ashe healed/tanked and (the other girl >_> name starts with a "P" but eludes me atm) firing away with black magic.

            Honestly it was pathetic, no one's hit points got below the yellow mark and the fight was over in five minutes, my controller resting on the floor the entire time. Yeah, real exciting...

            Crisis Core wasn't much better, but that's because I bothered to do a decent chunk of the missions (I stopped when I found out I couldn't get the Junon Souvinir shop because of some retarded side quest I didn't do in chapter 6) and had some decent materia (I was about lv 50, had Zack's VIT up to 200 and just spammed Flare while downing the odd elixir or ether). Given that it was an action game, I was very pissed off at how few creative battles, events and missions there were. I'd say the best part was when you get to use the Sniper Rilfe, and the worst obviously being when he died ; ;

            I forget where I read it but someone best described the game as a "train wreck in slow motion" because you already knew that Zack was going to die in the end. I though it would put a huge damper on the game for me but it really didn't sink in until I watched the final FMV (talk about gut-wrenching)

              Re: FF7 Remake: Should SE Rewrite it?

              It was just a bit weird, because a Final Fantasy main series game hasn't had a female lead in over a decade. I liked the system, but it was very easily broken. I didn't even have to do anything the last fight except make sure the right people got healed. Gambits handled everything.. but it was nice in that exp grinding wasn't as monotonous. In fact, it was about as easy as steering and waiting for the mob to die. :-D

              Back OT thought, FF7 get's a lot of flack, but it's a great game, and it's a shame that most of the people that hate it only dislike it because so many people love it, and the people who love it don't really even have valid reasons other than that "they do."

              Most of the moments in FF7 just wouldn't be funny anymore with next-gen touchups (IE, Playing Dressup).

                FFXII iho is more fun when you turn gambits off of your party leader ;x

                  Malacite, as to the ease of the fight, I agree it wasn't terribly challenging, but why should it need to be? I mean, I had my characters leveled up fairly high (I completely neglected three of my characters after about lv30) and good gambits, I don't see why I should've had to struggle with the fight. If you want to make it challenging, why not make it challenging for yourself? You could go back without gambits on, and controls set for real time, for example. You also complain about FF8; you do realize that if you find something too easy, you can always go back and do things so it's more challenging, and leave the things that make it too easy to those of us that need it, right? Also, Vayne is pretty much just a regular guy. Why should he compare to the demi-god style bosses FF games normally have?

                  I personally enjoyed the ending enough that I played through it three times.

                    If Zack did make that comment, so it's safe to say he was "weakened" by the experiments performed on him? Does this slide in with his death at the end when we see him faced off with probably hundreds of the ShinRa Army? Or was he just simply overwhelmed.

                      Anyone and their brother knows that if Zack at that point in the game wouldve fought against that many soldiers at his level and with his magic/resources, he wouldve triumphed. It actually wouldve been a horrible matchup. Zack- 409.. and counting, Shinra- 0!

                      The only way he couldve lost is if something horrible had happened to him during a fight with genesis, or due to some overly taxing experimentation. In short. Zack be rapin the shinra soldiers mon. You could take on 50,000 of those in a row if you had to no problem. I imagine the experiments wouldve thrown him back to like level 5 or something, or broken his materia, or taken away his items, etc. Something bad had to have happened other than those experiments.

                        Re: FF7 Remake: Should SE Rewrite it?

                        It says in the notes in the Snin-Ra manor that his body rejected the Jenova Cells. I'm guessing that rejection caused him to become severely weakened, and that it was his training as SOLDIER that kept him "normal" unlike Cloud (who was just a grunt with no previous Mako exposure, and let's face it the guy's a pansy) who became a vegetable.

                        If you have a save file far back enough play it again. I distinctly remember Zack saying that he more or less felt weak. (Not in those exact words but that's the gist of it)

                        And in the opening movie we see him charging through a hailstorm of bullet fire without even breaking a sweat, so it's a tough call. I imagine with enough troops even Sephiroth would have died, but I just can't ignore the fact that Zack was not at 100%.

                          I'd also hope with a remake, that Nobuo doesn't come in and change the soundtrack to some rock album. It'd have to be orchestrated and kind of similar to some of the tracks on Crisis Core.

                          "... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

                            Crisis Core has mostly been rock, which is ok, because it rocks.

                              Nobuo would have to do the music or it wouldn't be FF7.

                              And I for one like the rock remixes that he and his band "The Black Mages" have done (though I agree they'd be out of place in FF7. Remastered versions would be great though)

                              Maybe they can give all the summons (including Sephiroth's Super Nova attack and other boss specials like it) Full FMVs like they did in Crisis Core?

                              And BBQ, that DS remake of 7 you mentioned is only a speculated rumor, and there's no way in hell they can fit all the FMV's and audio onto that tiny chip. Why do you think SE left Nintendo in the 1st place? (Actually apparently their president has derided SE and publicly humiliated them ever since... the DS titles were apparently a compromise on Nintendo's part to make their fans complacent again. People were pissed, Nintendo caved. Really rather shameful on Nintendo's part to insult their one-time greatest partner. Had the PSP been released a lot sooner I bet you they would have told Nintendo to rightly go screw themselves)

                                Not sure why this hasn't been mentioned yet, but if you've played Dirge of Cerberus then you've already met these other two Class 1st SOLDIERs. Weiss and Nero.

                                As for an FF7 remake, I have mixed feelings. They would have to add something new and that A. Doesn't screw with the story from all the other games, and B. Doesn't make FF7 easier than it already is. I'm all for leaving the W-Item glitch in though, if only to make chocobo breeding a little less painful.

                                It would be pointless to remake it just to update the graphics. Making the game prettier doesn't actually make it any better.
