While the whole thing about blackholes colliding and stuff is really neat, it doesn't exactly perk my interest in it as a GAMING console. Graphic-wise I'm content with all three systems, but gameplay-wise is what I'm more interested in.

It's not too expensive for all it brings but it is too expensive for a video game console. It's like saying a $1000 video game system isn't too expensive when you consider it doubles as a fully-functional refrigerator. Well, yeah, sure, but I'd rather just remove the fridge and buy the console for $300. Granted, the PS3's extras are a lot more practical and desirable than a fridge but that's besides the point.

Not practical or desirable? Hell, that's pretty much half the gaming world's wet dream =P

Seriously though, game chairs have built in coolers and I've seen someone mod a com to be housed in a mini-fridge with his snacks. It was glorious~

Yeah, I sure as hell don't miss having seperate bootup floppies, each with their own unique autoexec.bat and config.sys files. I spent countless hours tweaking settings just so games like Wing Commander II would run at their absolute best, then have to use completely different settings to make Ultima VII bootup at all.

I remember that crap and I'm not even a big 'old school' gamer XD

I was all of like 5 or 6 playin crappy com games on a crappy com.

Though on topic, those links are shiney, but wtf do they mean? Is it a new PS3 game comin out cause if not then meh. I'll wait till I hear more about this rumored 120 gig system comin out. If anything, this whole 'come out with differently built systems!' thing is hurting them more then helping them because those people who try to buy the 'best' when it comes out will have to worry about them trumping the system with a better version in 6 months.

Pick two versions and stay with them. Make the dirt cheap one that just plays games and make the super upscaled ones that does games and then some. Make it easy on your consumers by giving them a simple choice dammit.

Actually they're doing the same thing that Apple does. Only with generally much more expensive stuff ><; (unless you count the really powerful I-Macs and I-Pods.)

By this definition there is no innovation. Ever.

Innovation != brand new that no one ever thought of before.

Either way, whether you consider them innovative or not, that does not excuse their business practices.

But again, you're too young to know what things were like before DirectX when game makers had to write routines to handle input and drawing and sound each and every time a new OS or patch was shipped for each game they made; when you had to have a Soundblaster or you didn't hear sound because the developer didn't write support for anything else because they just couldn't afford to buy, write and test drivers for every card on the market; when you had to reboot your computer to play this game and then again to play that one and then again to use a wordprocessor because each of those games had drivers for the hardware that conflicted with the OS's drivers.

No, I'm not. Just because I was born on a certain date doesn't mean I have no experience with anything prior to that.

By that logic, neither of us would've ever used a typewriter. By that logic, I would never have used a record player, or even cassettes. I wouldn't know anything about cars without seatbelts and airbags, or 'mobile phones' that needed bags purse size or larger to carry them. I wouldn't know that remote controls used to be a luxury, or that computers used to need punch cards and toggle switches.

I am not ignorant to things created before my birth any more than you are ignorant of steam locomotives and Gutenberg's printing press. Unless you can honestly say that you don't know about anything from before you were born, I'd advise you to not make that claim.

As to the various models of PS3, I've heard that in Japan they're actually paying more for the 20 and 60 gig versions because of the backwards compatibility.

The 20gb and 60gb models were discontinued in Japan, so stores are buying used models and selling them at higher prices than the current 40gb model. There's no current backwards compatible model available in Japan or Europe.
