completely random question: would it be possible for Kojima to do a story tying together Metal Gears with Orbital Frames, and uniting MGS and ZOE into a single universe; or is there incompatible stuff in there?

I dunno. I guess they could reach for something, kinda like how they tied FFVII and FFX together. They're practically completely separate universes.

Yeah I dunno. It would be interesting but I don't see any real similarities. I guess since Metal Gear is a normal advancement in weapons technology, Orbital Frames could be considered similar just farther in the future.

We know the Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its long cut-scenes, but this tops everything! Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment in Hideo Kojima's seminal stealth series, has cut-scenes (note the plural) that approach the 90 minutes mark.

So awesome, yet that's gonna suck for those who don't really care (but they shouldn't be playing the game anyways). As long as you can pause them this time, that's fine with me. I'd take 5 hour cutscenes. Thankfully they've finally allowed you to pause them.

Hype level is skyrocketing.

OMG!! Okay, GREAT news to anyone that wants to pre-order the metal gear solid 4 80GB bundle (not gunmetal gray from Konami).

Get it from Circuit City!

Granted, I usually always buy my products from either amazon or Gamestop, but neither of those retailers will put up a pre-order for the bundle.

I am planning on buying this bundle, and I also have a Limited Edition copy on pre-order.

Yeah.. I'm a fan. I'm going all out for this one. Cheers guys!

Another 10/10 review, this time from Swedish magazine LEVEL. They had this to say (translated and slightly altered due to spoilers):

[After three hours] MGS4 has already surpassed everything else I've played in the action genre. It's so far ahead of its competition that its competitors seem downright pathetic - regardless if they're called GEARS OF WAR, SPLINTER CELL or HALO 3.... METAL GEAR SOLID 4 is Hideo Kojima's best and most touching game ever.

Also a neat little bit: in the last episode of IGN's Podcast BEYOND, a reader asked IGN reviewer Greg Miller if MGS4 had any boss fights that compared to the likes of MGS1's Psycho Mantis. His response was "Dear sweet Zombie Jesus, yes."

Pai Pai: Wanna place your bets now on if MGS4 is going to get better reviews than GTA4?


For the sake of being able to be judged, we'll go off Metacritic. Grand Theft Auto IV (xbox360: 2008): Reviews got 98 out of 100. It also had enough places give it perfect scores that I started to laugh, got bored, and then started to laugh again while I was reading it (see: Overly Long Gag - Television Tropes & Idioms ).

I loved GTA4 but it was no where near perfect. If I'd score it I'd give it a 80/100.

My worry is that all this hype is going to get people expecting something that makes the earth move for them and, in the end, they'll be disappointed. Well...ya...kinda like all the uber GTA4 reviews. 10/10 is a mighty high standard and personally I don't think any game can be called perfect.

TGM: Perfect scores don't mean perfect things, though. They never have. Most places use it as a "you absolutely have to see this" marker; at best it's a "As close to perfection as we're gonna get.".

That said, you do have to agree that a lot of the problems in GTA4 are either personal preference (gameplay style), or the fact that it just expands on the GTA we already know without being very 'new'.

And thats what makes it less than perfect. Giving 10/10's means its perfect, no flaws, innovative, and ground breaking. It's highly unlikely that a sequel can ever be perfect.

10/10 is subjective, I would give it to a game sequel (or not) that made me have a blast while not having techincal issues (at least not annoying ones) while playing it. To me the game being innovative and groundbreaking is only icing to the cake, what matters is how much I enjoy my time playing it. HL2 and Portal are great examples of it even if the games themselves weren't perfect.
