  • question connecting Wii to widescreen TV

My housemate brought over his Wii to my room and decided to leave it here for the whole house to play

My TV is a widescreen LCD westinghouse 26''. Wii only uses the center part of the screen in a shape of normal TV and leaves some black space on both side. Setting Wii's display to widescreen only squeezes the image within this space My TV doesn't have any option to stretch the picture out to the side it seems. My 360 displays full widescreen correctly without setting anything. Should I look for other connectors for Wii? Right now it's connected with the normal RCAs.

I doubt you can get widescreen using RCA connectors without being able to adjust that on your TV, but sadly I know nothing about the Wii.

Maybe component cables would fix the issue since some HDTVs wont recognize RCA when widescreen mode is automatic. Unless you are conecting the 360 using RCA instead of componet too that is.

Are you using an HDMI cable for your xbox?

You should check your TV's manual, or contact the manufacturer. That is very odd.

Yea it's obb. I've been looking around all the menu the whole night. In the screensize menu there's 3 options.

            - Standard.
            - Fill. It's a slightly stretched out standard. Very subtle.
            - Overscan. This one does stretch the image all the way to the side, but it maintains the aspect ratio. So the top and buttom are cut off by a whole lot.

Apart from this menu I see nothing else : /

              You'll need component then.

Raydeus, don't be so jumpy to spend money.

I have my Wii hooked up via RCA because I'm a cheapass and it works in widescreen just great.

Jei, what kind of TV is this?

Re: question connecting Wii to widescreen TV

I connect my Wii up using component videos. It fills the wide screen and I think there was a setting in the Wii that you need to use.
Have you done any Wii updates on it or your friend? They might have added a update to it.

Omni, he realizes that, the problem is that his TV isn't stretching the image properly.

On my tv there is also a button for aspect ratio, then perhaps you need to check that setting on your tv? ??? Otherwise I'm not sure what else needs to be done.

There has been a ton of Wii updates, and I'm not sure which updates have done what to what. Does Nintendo release a history of what each update does?

westinghouse 26'' HDTV. It supports 1080i just fine for my PC output and 360, both using components. :/
Still trying to dig into settings...

Feba hopefully he'll be able to get widescreen without having to buy component cables.

But if he has to buy them because his TV doesn't recognize RCA for widescreen then he'll get progresive scan and widescreen for like 15 bucks max. I don't think that's such a bad deal.
