Re: question connecting Wii to widescreen TV

model SK-26H590D with front slot DVD player.

About the Wii menu. Setting it to widescreen only squeezes the output within the same display area. Make round buttons into vertical ovals. And it won't let me choose EDTV/HDTV/480p, the button's greyed out. Is that normal for RCA?

For some HDTVs it is. And if the Wii's widescreen mode is Anamorphic if the TV doesn't have the function to strech the image while using RCA then you wont get widescreen. Only the compressed image you've been getting.

Sounds like if you can't adjust your TV to do the stretching while using RCA you'll have to get Component even if that gives Feba a heart attack.

        Goddamn you're dense.

Spending money on something without trying to solve the problem is stupidity. If the TV actually can't do it, then it's reasonable, yes, but saying "oh well spend money" as the first reaction to any problem you have is just silly.

it's ok I think we can tolerate the non-widescreen format >.>

checking the online manual, there is an option VGA setting in the menu too but this option doesn't show up on my menu, not sure why.

besides it's my housemate's console. So if he wants to buy the component connector then good for me.

I never said he had to buy them without trying to fix it, I said if he can't do that with his TV he'll have to buy component cable if he wants widescreen, which he wont anyway since it isn't even his Wii.

Don't get so pasionate about saving money.

And by the way, did you find a way to make his TV stretch the image properly? You were supposed to be looking into that.

Re: question connecting Wii to widescreen TV

Hmm, reading that manual the only setting I see that could affect image ratio (other than the fill setting) would be DVD restoration.

But it doesn't seem like this TV can stretch anamorphic widescreen from RCA (I would need to check the setting myself to find out), although I still don't know if Wii's widescreen is anamorphic or not.

And of course automerge would be disabled here. >_<

DVD restoration? Not sure what that does but i'll try it out.

Page 50 on the manual, it changes the ratio for 4:3 signals, maybe that's the one, if not can you adjust screen size manually? It says something of that sort on page 27.

hey it works o.O; I tried it with Fill mode and it did nothing. It actually only works with standard more. Thanks Raydeus /kiss

Now, see, there is an easy solution, that doesn't waste money. Which you wouldn't have seen if he'd just gone out to buy new cables.

What does buying a cable have to do with replacing the whole TV?

So it was through Feba's mind-manipulating technique that Raydeus found the solution?
