Yes, but when Mario is whored out, its usually quality whoring.

Can't say the same for Sonic and Megaman.
Yet you gripe specifically about Mega Man. And Pokemon isn't exactly quality whoring outside of the main games. Star Fox could be doing better, too.
    Megaman Soccer anyone?
Mario is Missing! Mario's Time Machine. Mario Teaches Typing 1 and 2. Super Mario Bros. 2 (mentioned simply because it's not really Super Mario Bros. 2. See "The Lost Levels.") Mario Party series, which already has twelve games.

Either way, how whored out a series/character is, and how many lame spin-offs have left marks in a series's history, or how well the series has been faring as of late is pretty irrelevant. Sonic made the cut through sheer demand/popularity. And really, how many followers does Pikmin have, even if they were two great games?

It was really predictable that you would bring up those Mario titles. I really wouldn't say they count, though, as they were made by a third party, whom has stopped developing them as of a few years before the turn of the millennium.

Don't the last two sentences contradict each other a bit? Although, I suppose you could argue the two events are obviously not mutually exclusive . . . and, aside, you visit Smashboards, right Armando? Last time I was there, Olimar had what I noticed to be something of a cult following, though nobody would have it. It was actually quite similar to the Pokémon Trainer, if I recall correctly. Now, I was . . . surprised, to say the least, when Sakurai revealed our friend from Kanto, but, to be honest, how else would one make playable all three of the starters at once? Being a fan of the series myself, I plan to play with the Trainer just about as much as I do with Pikachu (but probably Pikachu more so). But, I digress . . .

My point is, the Pokémon Trainer is a unique concept to a character that hardly anybody could believe could make it. I think Olimar, to the Pikmin fans, at least, will provide another unique fighting aspect: not even Bowser can say that he has an army of minions to aid him, and while Dedede has them, he isn't so dependent on them (Final Smash notwithstanding), nor does he have moves or abilities centered around his minions. Olimar is, admittedly, the best (and most balanced) way one is able to essentially fight solely with an army.

Predictable? Maybe. But Mega Man Soccer is just as old. And the number of Mega Man spin-offs is very small. You've got Mega Man Soccer, and that one racing game we didn't get. And, um, the original Game Boy games, since they're technically non-canon, but still have your average Mega Man game play (Mario also had his Super Mario Land series, after all.)

Anyways, my point was that apparently, BBQ thinks the Mega Man series has been whored out so much, there aren't enough fans left to warrant including him. I was just pointing out that there's characters from both series that are equally "whored out," series that didn't make a big impact, and characters that haven't seen the l ight of day in over 20 years (Pit, Ice Climbers...) They haven't exactly been selective.

At the very least, I think it's ridiculous to assume no one wants Mega Man in Brawl.

I could make a point with this, but I'll just do a Murphieism and say that I don't.

              Megaman? Mario? WHO CARES!?

The company is ruining Vader, and you people are worried about which character not even in the game has been used in more bland games than another?! Grrrrr!
              Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
              yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

I'm pretty sure that we had already come to the conclusion that this would still just be DoA with some Soul.

But, yeah, the Sci-fi-fan in me Thanked your post, and now must bring up this old gem in eulogy of the technically-supposed-to-be-dead-anyway Darth Vader.

Ok...last time I checked, light sabers could cut through steel. So shouldn't swords be pretty useless?

I asked a friend of mine who is a HUUUUUUUUUGE SW's fan about this and he said he wouldn't touch that s**t with a 10 foot pole. Kinda cracked me up coming from someone that is so into it.

Really piss poor attempt to try and revive an already old game to be honest. Sad thing is, even using Star Wars to score "cool" points is tired and very three years ago.

Re: Soul Calibur IV Officially Makes Up for the Excess Boobage: YODA AND VADER

I'm sure LucasArts/Film doesn't mind the money hat, but its become more and more clear Namco is just out of ideas for their fighting games. Tekken really hasn't improved since Tekken 3, 5 just brought it back to its form in 3 while 4 totally fucked up the formula.

Virtua Fighter 5 wasn't much of of leap over VF4 Evo. More of the same. Not a bad thing, but they could have just revamped Evo and put it online, that would have been well enough.

Problem with fighting games is you can't make them like Madden (well, unless your SNK, then you do). These games do take a life of thier own when they're allowed to be released in arcades first (where they always should be first).

Capcom took a really good thing with Street Fighter II and ran it into the ground with unnecessary updated versions of the game. Sammy hasn't seemed to learn from that, they're still doing it with Guilty Gear, but then, aside from GGX, they really have pachinko machines.

Soul Calibur is a game that was hard to make a sequel to, it stepped up and pretty much perfected what they did in Soul Edge and SCII only further refined it. Anything beyond what was in SCII is pretty much going too far and some would even be hard-pressed to see a genuine difference between SC and SCII.

DoA is still the same game it was on Dreamcast, which is why they should stop making them. Its probably why Team Ninja is looking for new things to do with franchise, like the Extreme series or Ninja Gaiden (though they only bring it shame by associating DoA with it).

I've really only got my eyes on Street Fighter IV at this point. I think Capcom knows they're in a position to revitalize the genre again, just like VF4 did on PS2. Capcom made all the biggest mistakes, after all. SFIV's design already shows they're not going to yet-again try to move the series forward for the sake of technology, but for move it forward with what already works. They're using 3d, but keeping the sensibilities 2D.

After SFIII Third Strike, they gave the series a nice rest, I think there's something to be said for putting a series on hiatus. When you beat SC and Tekken to death like Namco has started to, there's not much to be excited about, keep in mind that there's also Tekken 6 coming and... why? People are still playing 5.

And to be honest, Smash Brothers is more in a subgenre of fighters that are honestly free-for-all brawlers. Power Stone, Jump All-Stars and stuff like that. These games have thier own nuances, but I don't think they require the same level of finesse and dedication that Street Fighter or Virtua Fighter would require of you.

My distaste for the Star Wars characters simply stems from the fact I don't like Hollywood in my videogames, with limited exceptions (I'll take a SW game by Bioware, but not many others). I love videogame character crossovers, I liked seeing Dante in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, I like seeing Mario and Sonic teaming up and throwing down against each other. Comicbook heros I can tolerate crossing over, too.

But things like Star War are so iconic on their own and so well-established that crossover is just not necessary. Its a thirty year-old franchise, I don't think about what whold happen if Darth Vader and Mitsurugi clashed, I wanna see Star Wars characters clash and meet with each other because they are so many of them.

I'm quoting this again because I just realized something. That something was that the Tales of Symphonia sequel/spin-off had better not suck, assuming it ever makes it stateside.
