The invasion is soon to be upon us once again...
Last month, at the launch of Insomniac Games' RATCHET & CLANK FUTURE: Tools of Destruction, the developers held their final FULL MOON SHOW Podcast of the year. Upon closing, they mentioned that we'd soon hear details about their next project, already in production, before their next podcast on January 17th, 2008.
Today, word spread that SCEA has officially trademarked the title, RESISTANCE 2. Though it was pretty much a given, seen by studio CEO and producer of the original title Ted Price's silence during the entire development of RCF: ToD, this all but confirms that RESISTANCE 2 is Insomniac Games' next title and, keeping in line with their perfect track record of yearly games, will certainly be scheduled for release in 2008.
Since the release of the original game, there have been a slew of rumours surrounding the inevitable sequel, most of them fired by the first game's shocking conclusion. (I won't go into spoiler territory, play it for yourself)
People have said that the game would be subtitled "Rise of Man," would take place in various locations such as the US and Mexico, that Nathan Hale would not be the game's playable protagonist, would support 1080p/60fps gameplay, and that the multiplayer would be beefed up even further (from 40 players) and feature vehicles and much, much larger maps and modes. Insomniac has refused to comment on any of this speculation, but all of it is extremely exciting.
There are only a few more weeks until Insomniac and SCEA come out with an official announcement, gameplay details, and, hopefully, the first in-game footage. Though that's barely a lot of time, let's hope it's sooner than later and Sony decides to grace us with a New Years' gift.
