Here are new scans from Gamepro. It's a new playable build, the first one to appear privately outside of Insomniac's offices. It covers the Chicago segment of the game and one of the first bosses, the Leviathan.





















Some new details:

-The human base on Iceland is home to a massive effort to reverse-engineer Chimeran technology to balance the scales of the war.

-Hale becomes the leader of a Sentinels group, Echo Team. Combat members of the Sentinels share his unique resistance to the Chimeran virus.

-Hale will undergo a "metamorphosis" at some point in the game.

-Cooperative online and competitive online are "like yin and yang." You can only earn all the rewards and unlockables by playing both.

-The Spider Grenade is one of the new tools of battle. It secrets black ooze that expands over a certain radius and grows like tendrils around the surroundings, burning like napalm.

-The more players present in a Co-Op game, the harder the enemies become. A group of 8 will find themselves up against 20-30 Chimera soldiers at some points in the Co-Op Campaign.

-The beta begins this summer; there will be multiple chances to gain entry. Considering the game's biggest online feature is the 60-player battles, there will probably be plenty of spaces open. Go to Gamepro's website to sign up once the registration page comes up.

I am excited about it, but honestly, the video's I've seen looks like they removed some of the old charm. The multilayer I've seen particularly doesn't look that appealing.

Well, do keep in mind that the game, including multiplayer, are both in alpha phase and aren't very far along visually. What little we've seen of polished footage looks great, but Insomniac is taking a different approach with this game, polishing the visuals last.

The game is confirmed for release on November 4th, 2008. The Public Beta will begin next month.

And it's not 100% confirmed just yet, but James Stevenson from Insomniac Games has hinted on NeoGAF that there will be split-screen online play, at least for co-op.
